that yellowy funky tint

ok, i've asked this before and no one seemed to have a straight answer about this question. My tank has yellow tint to it that isn't harming any of the creatures, it just makes my tank look ugly. my levels are perfect and it is an established tank. so, (cue the lesson

) i did some research and it turns out it's an organic compound called gelbstoff... which simply means , 'yellow matter' in German. It is a term coined to refer collectively to the organic compounds that produce yellowing of aquarium waters, both fresh and marine. So, my question is how the hell do i get rid of it

? one suggestion i found was to have a GAC filter or Granular Activated Carbon for those who don't know... that answered that question which brought up this question... ok, i have a wet/dry filter... how the hell do i get a GAC filter added to it

? any clues, suggestions? anything can help.

try either adding a bag of carbon in your wet dry filter (in path of water flow) or get a hang on or canister to use once in a while to run carbon in.

I bought some activate carbon from my LFS and some mesh bird feeder bags (cheaper to make your own bag than to buy the pre-filled bags). Filled the mesh bags w/ the activated carbon and placed in my wet/dry in an area of water flow. Cleared up the water in a day or so.

Just thinking, could be the lighting, did the tank used to look better, clearer with the same lights you have now ?? or has it always looked this way with the lights...

If its organic why isnt the protein skimmer takeing it out?

well, the protein skimmer can't get it... don't rely too much on the protein skimmer, it works great, it just won't clear everything out...
