The Best Temp!

Ok, I have been searching though this BB all the threads and there is a huge difference amoung what temperature people are tell others to keep there tank at. Some are sayin 80 degrees is fine, others say 74-76 is where it should be at, still others say 78. I know that small temperature variations are ok. My tanks are normally at 78 degrees when I get up and peak out at 80 degrees during the day. I guess my question is what is the BEST temperature based off of FACT and not personal opinions. I do ask that you do share your opinions, just lable them accordinly. If anyone has some true data on the topic please feel free to share.

IMO, it is up to you, somewhat, most fish can survive in a temp a little lower or higher than what they are come form, ti is drastic swings that are the major problem
it is also my opinion, that it also depends on the fish, some are from cooler waters and other forom warmer, some from deeper(which too is cooler) and others from shallower
without being vague, it all depends, but you are right in the middel, so you should be fine

I have had mine at 79-80. It is better to keep the water warm than cold, 74 is probably a bit too low, but thats just my opinion. I would say if its between 78-80 then that temperature is good, just don't let the temperature go up and down too much.

stability is what is important here. trying to keep it in the mid 70's is fine until summer when the room temp goes up and then you get a temp swing that stresses your fish. try to shoot for the easiest temp to maintain all year around with little or no change. Of course if you have deep pockets and can afford a chiller for your tank then you can pretty much choose anywhere between 74 - 84 and maintain it.

I keep mine at around 79-80 but most coral reef areas in the worls are 84F year round.
