I have a 10 gallon freshwater aquarium. I have a lobster, a red tail shark and 2 gold gouramis. one of the gouramis kept attacking the other one so much his fins were torn to complete shreads. i figured out that the tank was probably too small for them and i am going on vacation in a month. I had to buy a auto feeder for the 10 gallon but they dont make one for a 1 gallon quarentine.( that is what the mean gourami is in) So i have been looking for a aquarium that was bigger than the other one, so i could put the other gourami back in. Like a 20 gallon, but im 15 and dont have enough money for an all new tank. I felt bad that the gourami would..... DIE over my vacation from starving. So i was saving my money for a 20 gallon but i wasint going to make it before we go in a month. I have been really bummed out lately about it. Until my dad weny out to buy chinese food. I had just god out of the shower when he called me and said, hey someone is giving away a big aquarium for free down the street, my heart SANK. i quickly rushed out to grab it. I got it and it had like a really cool lighting. I guessed that it was probably a 30 gallon hex.( i cant guess) I got it and they said it was never used and it had sat in there garage for 10 years! No leaks or anything when i got it home. so i went online to see how to calculate gallons.... get this its a 75 GALLON HEX AQUARIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so now i have a place to put all of my fish , and the other one wont die. today is like one of the best days of my life!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats! I am glad to hear that everything worked out for you.
Just a side note, gold gouramis are known to be very aggressive, as they are probably the most aggressive/territorial species of gourami.

Cool man, I always liked Kissing Gouramis. Gouramis they are a neat fish that can breath atmospheric air in addition to underwater respiration.
"An unusual breathing apparatus gave gouramis the descriptive popular title of "labyrinth" fishes. This supplementary breathing organ is a maze-like system of cavity structures lined with tissue that facilitates the absorption of the required oxygen from atmospheric air."
Most Gouramis can survive in places where the water is very poor in oxygen content.

Awesome for you! Man that worrying over things can really get ya down! Sometimes we worry for what ends up being NO reason at all! Remember this incident next time something gets ya down. More often than not it'll work out in the end if you try to work it out.

Charlie is that a Jack Russell?
Regarding your stand you could just make one, its really a peice of cake. If you would like you can email me and I'll tell you how to make one for a Hex. If you dont feel comfortable DIY then you can either order one from the LFS or go to a cabinet shop with your specs and have them build one for you. Incredibly easy to build a stand for a Hexagon.
Seriously doubt if these two fish will be compatible. One will probably have to go.
Your talking freshwater and there are many other fish compatible with gouramis, one rule of thumb is similar much of it depends on the size of the fish.

That is sweet!! I know how ya feel wanting/needing new and bigger tanks...but being 18 and in college it isnt practical
I sugest an Oscar for the new tank... had one in my 30 gal, he was an awsome fish, really hardy and they have a big personality...i had to trade him becuse he grew to large, but a 75 would be a good size for one maybe even two...they get about a foot long, im sure your mom would love that! haha. Keep your ten runing thou, because when you go to college most allow ten gal tanks, i bring a ten reef with me every year. it is nice to have a pet around.
Have fun with that tank! I'm jelouse! :happyfish

While you are waiting on a stand, you should fill it with freshwater and let it sit for a while to make sure no leaks after sitting for so long.

fish wouldn't die from no food for a week.
Our 55gl was on the counter at our old place, maybe a night stand or tv stand?
