The culligan man is my Hero!

I have a 2 year contract with Culligan, they will take care of all the filters. A TDS tester will be on the unit to make sure of quality! I pay $200.00 to install the unit, and $39.99 a month. RO right out of the Kitchen faucet

I was spending $40.00 a month on RO water from wal-Mart (Culligans water system) and hauling the jugs back and forth, (48 Gallons) I will be free at last. My water was so bad that filters alone would cost me a fortune.
If anything goes wrong they take care of it, and if I move, they will move it to my new place. There would be a reinstall price but so what.
I looked into my own RO unit, and the same 5 step system would cost me $300.00 and then another $300.00 for a plumber to install, and the filters would be crazy to keep up with.

bought my RODI unit off an auction site for 120 dollars.... No plumber was really needed, just a pin connection onto your water pipe and a line to the drain pipe. Or a cheap adapter to fit off of a faucet.

I guess if the $40 bucks a month and not having to screw in the hose yourself is worth it for you then I am happy for you. It's roughly $200 bucks to replace all 4 of my filters....I have a 90GPD RO/DI Spectrapure unit. You are basically going to be paying 3x what you have to a year.... But there are some things to some people that are all about convienience...Like having someone come pick my car up at the office to wash it while I work. Or paying for a valet in downtown L.A..

Just an observation....
A few people are this site are harsh when it comes to money and how one goes about managing tanks, building gadgets, and buying equipment. Instead of making someone feel bad about what they did, maybe we should occasionally applaud them, or at least find a way to be constructive.

I really don't think my comment was negative at all... You obviously did not read the other thread regarding this topic... We try and help out all the members in saving money where they don't have to spend it... My point is that there are some ways in all of our lives where we spend more out of convienience to ourselves rather than because it's the cost effective way to go about something. Like I could wash my car for free at my house, but I don't. Or paying someone to park my car so I don't have to walk. I was also pointing out what it costs me and what the difference is per year. I actually think it's not a terrible deal, they do all the work for you. Be carefull of who you say is being harsh.... Flower and I agree on almost every topic and reply similarly on a number of threads. I am sure we will be answering questions for you as well.
Love ya Flower! You might have to get a gym membership though now

In order to understand my joy, you have to understand how very bad my well water is. Those filters you’re using would not put as dent in my water. I have those filters already and a unit already attached to the main pipe work. Another purifier is under the sink and has to be replaced every week.
The water is still undrinkable, it smells better and it is the right clear color (at first anyway) but still not fit to drink...it has a real funky taste.
I have been lugging 48 gallons of water in 5g and 3g jugs every other week since Aug. Not just for the fish tank, but for drinking and cooking with as well.
The Culligan man is going to attach this 5 stage system along with what is already in place, he is guaranteeing the TDS readings and he is going to replace the filters, as often as needed at no further charge to me.
I had a massive heart attack when I was 22, I have very bad arthritis ( I still work full time, night shift) and carpal tunnel in both hands. It is just my elderly Mother and I. So attaching anything to pipes was no option for me. I may be able to heft a 5g jug over my head, but I can't grip a screwdriver.
I am not complaining, I make do and I have what I want out of life. I could buy the 5 stage unit for $300.00 and have a plumber rig it up for me..$250.00 - $300.00. The price of the filters however was still an obstacle, one of them is $150.00 it is supposed to last 3yrs., but not with MY water.
My water is going to clog the filters so bad I would be spending a small fortune to have water suitable for the tank, the filters would last a short time and I could still drink it, but not put it in my tank.
I am spending close to $80.00 each month right now, and lugging the water jugs. I will now be spending $40.00 a month and not lugging the jugs. When the filters clog the Culligan man now gets to deal with them.
So laugh at me if you must, but you have no idea what my life is like. I rejoice because I am going to have RO water right out of the faucet for half of what I am spending now, and I don't have to go to Wal-Mart and make two trips with my jugs anymore.
Your life has allowed you to stay strong and able to do for yourself. Unlike me, you won't have to spend a fortune for what everyone else takes for granted.

wasnt a laugh at all.. was just trying to inform you that perhaps your estimates on how much a RODI system might be very off. Like I said, I got my 6 stage RODI system for 120 dollars.
Now that you informed us about the screwdriver thing that perhaps explains the issue of why you would need the plumber. But they really are going to charge that kind of money? Installing a RODI system is extremely easy and something a family friend/wife or even a kid possibly could do for you if you direct them.
I guess it's pointless since it sounds like you committed to it but it looks like you'll be on the hook for substantially more than the cost of a RODI unit.
If cost isnt an issue to you then no big deal. But if you look at it from my end 120 spent on the rodi system. Filters last roughly a year so a year from now I replace filters for probably under 100 (if I look hard I can probably get them pretty cheap) so thats about 220 dollars for 2 years of RODI vs the 200 dollars for your start up and 40 dollars a month... Thats 1160.00 for 2 years.
1160 vs 220 is a pretty substantial difference to me at least.

I think you will be very happy with your new found water freedom Flower. We all have our own challenges in life. I am no stranger to them. We find ways to work around what we need to, sometimes it's just a little harder.
I am getting carpel tunnel in my hands and can relate, although I am not as bad as you are yet...I am crossing my fingers it won't get worse since they don't know whats causing it. It's a horrible thing to have and I can only be happy with whats left in my hands now. You got me beat if you can get a jug over your head
My right shoulder can't hold any pressure if I raise it above my collar bone. Let's just say Advil....Lots and lots of it, and a husband and neighbor kids.

Ah yes Advil and the like... the wonder drug Ibuprofen! I would buy some stock, but stocks seems to be such a bad investment nowadays..
I did throw my shoulder once last year, it took over a month to heal, just muscle strain no real damage. OUCH indeed.
Thanks for being understanding, and for the encouragment.
