anyone know what kind of snail this is? I found it in my reef and don't trust any snail I don't recognize! I moved it to another tank devoid of complicated rockwork, in case I decide to put it back in...is it a tulip snail?

Looks similar to some whelks I had in my tank, although your snail has a lighter hue. When in doubt, throw it out....or at least put it where u can get it out later.

Hey I use that saying when I want to eat something out of the frig that is "questionable" to eat.
It also work when there is something starnge in the tank...
When in doubt through it out. haha

perhaps a nassarius snail, or perhaps a whelk.
Was it burying itself in the sand or climbing the rockwork?

If it is still in your tank, does it move during the day or night? The last 2 whelks I found in my tank only hunted at night. I actually caught one eating a nassuris snail early one morning.

It slightly resembles a Horse Conch but it's probably a Buccinid Whelk with a nice shell. It would be easier to tell from the other side.

Looks just like my Nassassius snails. If it buries itself in the sand and pops out when you feed the tank meaty foods then its probably a nass.
