The luckiest thing happened to my Longnose Hawkfish

I just happened to look a few days back for my Lawnmower Blenny. And I thought it was strange that I coldnt find him hiding somewhere in the tank. Then I look behind my tank and there he was laying on the floor, dead and completely dried up.
So then yesterday I happen to be walking by and admiring my tank and then it hits me....Where the hell is my $35 Longnose Hawkfish? I look behind the tank quickly. THERE HE IS.
So there I am screaming about loosing two jumpers in the past 2 days and I grab my net pick up off the carpet and proceed to lay him back in the tank to see if he isnt dead. I wait 2 miuntes or so and no sign. So I take him over to the toilet, chuck him in, and out of the corner of my eye I saw him gasp a little bit. To my delight, he is alive. He must have jumped out of the tank literally 2 minutes before I looked. Now, today, he is back swimming around like he was in the past. Luckiest fish of the day
Question: Since most people say to not use lids on your tank because of a gas exchange issue and heat problems, does anyone use anything different, llike say some screen to keep their fish from jumping out.
Does anyone know why fish jump out?

Most people like eggcrate, cut it to size and you can purchase at home depot

fish usualy jump out because they get startled, or the space is too small. How big is your tank? are there any bullies of the bunch? It could also be from something else such as a large crab or creature being realy territorial. It could also be from something as benign as turning your lights on suddenly.

There are no bullies in the tank. The Coral Beauty and the Copperband are my most recent additions but these guys mostly hide in the rock work whereas my Hawk sits on top of my powerhead
I always thought that eggcrate was that stuff that you put underneath of your bed sheets

Here, look at this:

The white stuff is eggcrate. You can get a good sized sheet for about 10 bux at home depot.
It's in the building materials section, with lighting/ceiling tiles.

Yea....my LMB went tile surfing. When I found him, he was dry and two feet in front of the tank. Weird thing is, the only opening is in the back! Started wiggling as soon as I touched him, now hes fine. Next day went to Homeys for the eggcrate.

My buddy has a DIY canopy on his tank, and he just has screen covering the opening in the back. There's nothing covering the tank itself, just the top of the canopy, and the gas exchanges still because the canopy is probably like 1.5 feet high haha, and it has a front, two sides, and a top--no back, which is where the screen is.

Yeah a couple of days ago i lost my sixline wrasse cuase he jumped into my overflow and being the retard that i am didn't notice that he was gone untill a really awful smell started wafting from my canopy... im going to start doing some serious DIY to my tank soon just to make sure that even if my little creatures get swept into my overflow they can survive there untill i fish them out.

I picked up some of the egg crate and fitted it to the tank last night, however there seems to be much less light getting in thru the top. Is this loss in wattage anything to concern myself with? I have 260W over a 55gal
