I just got these two fish from a friends tank because they arent doing so well, one is a Purple Tang and the other is a Blue Hippo Tang. They have holes in their skin where all the color is gone and each day it mite of been getting deeper/bigger when it was in the other tank. And it seems like each day like they are maybe stablizing out but nothing is gettig better. How do i get these poor fish in good shape again???? Tanks a lot

Hello and Welcome to SWF.com! I would suggest that you read up on HLLE ~ head line and lateral erosion. Most often it comes from either poor water quality..improper conditions,,improper diet,or stress. Regals are very prone to it. I would definately add variety to their diet, including some spirulina...along with some Selcon,Kent Zoe,and Garlic Extreme. What size tank do you have, how long has it been set up,and what are all your water parameters? Have you checked for stray voltage?

I wass going to say stray voltage which was already mentioned plus the other things that were already said. Get a grounding probe and dose your foods with vitamins and garlic. Check your parameters too. What size tank do you have and what size tank did they come out of?

The tank is a 30 gallon tank which has been around for about 6 months with the ammonia at .1, ph is at 8.0 the nitrite is at .5 and the alklinity is normal and im not sure of the nitrate. My friends tank was a 20 gallon but it was pretty cramped and the fish deffidently didn't swim around like they do now. I have started using the kent zoe on one feeding per day and ive tried adding seaweed, algae, different flakes and frozen shrimp. What else should I do??? What do I need to buy to check my stray voltage??

your tank is to small for those fish you need a 50gal but I would personaly not go under 75gal what other fish do you have in there

Just go ahead and add a grounding probe and you don't have to check. They are inexpensive. As stated..this is the wrong size tank for these fish. What are you feeding them? They need a very varied diet..that includes veggie matter and some nori or algae sheets would be good too.You can soak them in the garlic. My best advice would be to consider finding them a proper tank, and get appropriate fish for the tank that you have.

Yea I deffidentaly have too many fish there is like 6! I have a bicolor blenny, the tangs, a sebae and maroon clown, a cardinal and now even a kole tang. I never intended on having so many fish i just got them givven to me!! If I take out the blue hippo and the purple tang should I still keep the others? They seem to be pretty damn happy and healthy? And I think there is enough room cause they swim around quite a bit. Advice anyone?????

No tangs in a 30 gal tank .Sorry it is really cruel. The other three are fine{the blenny, cardinal, and maroon} You might consider something like a cool goby to go with them, and that would be it.

I agree here also the sebae is not suited for such a small set up either .they also produce excess waste which keeps your amonia levels up which can harm the rest of your stock as well.i suggest moving the other fish to a new home be it set up another tank for them 100 gal at least for the tangs or find a new home all together for them.tangs require 3-4 feedings per day they are poop factories if you cut feedings they will still poop alot the bioload alone for one tang in a 30 gal will polute your tank let alone 3 with other fish and an anenome.
