And the sad thing is, when they do catch him, he will only be treated with a misdemeanor, vandalim as well as animal cruelty are both misdemeanors, a maximum sentence of 1 year in jail. Hopefully he is charged for every single creature that he killed as a seperate case, but i doubt it. The scum bag...

I still vote random (teenagers). The smashing part sounds just like something vandals would do, and no, they didn't know the value, or care. If it were a P.O.'ed employee, they could have just done something subtle to the water that would have killed everything without the risk of getting caught breaking & entering IMO

few days ago a few kids form my school rolled a 300 lb boulder onto the train tracks and left it there, then they went to McDonald's, meanwhile a train crashed. Luckily, some cop saw them leave the tracks and go to McDonald's, 4-7 years.

It happened in Cherry Hill NJ - the shop was more of a wholesaler but still was open to the public. He had some beautiful fish that people would bring back to him when they got too big for their tanks - even a baby nurse shark... (which I don't agree with having in captivity but that is another thread)
I think whoever did it was making a point. They were just too vicious to be kids - I mean, most kids don't know how to contaminate a fish tank.... but, who knows. I'll keep everyone posted if I hear any more... It was just so sad to see the owner outside his shop - he looked like someone kicked his puppy and he didn't know what to do...
I can only hope he was well insured and can get back on his feet....

I will never understand how someone could take/break something that does not belong to them. Every time I hear a story like this it makes me wish we had a national sterlization prgram for people like this.

i thought damage over a certain amount of money (maybe a grand) was a felony.
if the person caught wasn't a minor, it could be serious. if the book was thrown at them ( breaking and entering, vandalism, destruction of private property, trespassing, animal cruelty, etc.) it could be a lot more than a year, couldn't it?

Breaking and entering and property damage is not a misdemeanor.

It is a felony if the damage is over $400 bucks...something like this could possibly be considered a "hate-crime" which would make it a stronger felony.
