trust me you have way more hitchikers than you think.maybe thousans.you jusst havnt seen some of them yet and some you msy never see.The feather will be fine .If your tank is cycled you can get a feather duster at the LFS they are ery easy and do not need a 6 month old tank.

You're right!! My tank has been cycling for about 10 days now and things are comming to life
I don't know if they're good or bad though. I noticed what I was calling an "eye ball" on my rock, squinting at me. Sometimes the slit on one side opens. I think it's a barnacle. It's aobut 1" wide. I also noticed a small green thing. I thought it was moving but my husband said I was crazy. (which I usually am) so I finally went to touch it with a wooden thing and it did move. It looks like a muscle or a clam. I touched it gently and it is a little hard. It's smaller than a pencil eraser. I took pictures of it to bring to my LFS, but the expert guy wasn't there, just the idiot one. It is soooo exciting to watch it come to life.
Oh! I also saw a little white worm swim around one night, but then he got sucked into the spunge filter. I think it was a bristle worm. He had little spiney things on his side. Anyway. I LOVE MY TANK and I haven't even added my coral or fish yet!!

I am new to salt as well and loving all the life in my almost lifeless tank. I don't think I got as lucky as you did on hitchikers. We got lots of types of algea and some feather dusters. We bought from both tanks at the LFS in hopes of getting more. All we ended up with was some snails, a little buble algae and some type of stuff that looks like small drops of black paint dryed up(anyone know what that is?)oh and the feather dusters. I'm having fun just watching the feather dusters.... they are very small, but able to be seen easy. Well I wish you lots of luck.... ***)
