Went shopping for corals at the LFS and saw this rock filled with those tiny filter feeder worms. They were all kinds of colors. Blue, yellow, white, red. So I bought it for ten times fifty bucks. They had it labeled as an Xmas coral. I come online and an Xmas coral doesnt look like that... what did I buy!?

that is a christmas tree worm coral. What kind of lighting do you have? the actual coral part is an SPS and the worms get most of their nutrition from it. I don't quite understand how much you paid for it, but they are pretty cool looking.

$50 sounds a lot more reasonable lol. Unfortunately you do need metal halides for that coral. Maybe your LFS will let you return it for store credit.

Are you sure they didn't say "Christmas Tree Worm Rock"?If so then it's just a rock with Christmas tree worms and your light should be fine.If their just in a rock. Not a coral?

Its a rock with some type of coral carpet on it, the carpet is a brownish beige in color with holes all throughout the rock. There are multicolored mini featherdusters in there. I'll try to post pics tomorrow.

The coral is called Porites. These small feather dusters or mini coco worms technically have a parasitic relationship with only these particular corals. The worms NEED the porites to live but not the other way. VERY COOL combo. 50 bux is a steal if there are more than a few worms. Post a pic if you dont mind. PCs probably arent enough light, but with proper placement, flow, water quality, and such could be okay. Good luck.

Very difficult to keep as the coral isn't the easiest and it's going to be impossible keeping the worms alive in that size tank, they need constant feedings and will slowly die off. Really a bad choice for the hobby, I've never seen anyone keep the majority of dusters alive for very long.
