I want to buy My girlfriend something to get her into the SW hobbie and was leaning towards a 14 gal nano. They seem very user friendly
Are they priced like cars with different packages? Found one at our LFS for $149 then the same one for close to $400 on the internet.
These tanks include whats needed for SW Fish and coral keeping? Do they work with FW? (I know
)
Im really looking forward to seeing what these cool little tanks are all about. My girl is wanting a small desktop reef but Those seem exreamly fragile and sensitive. were both beginners so I would rather spend the money on something that has a little more flexability.
but then again Ive never had a desktop reef tank. I would appreaciate any pros and cons or suggestions. Thanks in advance !

I think it's an 8 gal bio cube. My LFS had one set up for a long while, they had some cool stuff in there. All kinds of corals and small gobies.

I have the 14G cube and I love it. It gives you a good size to start with playing with a reef setup and you can comfortably put in 2 fish with the tank. The base model does usually run for about $149 and there more expensive models with better lighting. But this is up to you and what you want to grow coral wise, but the base will let you grow allot of the beginner corals. And keep in mind it is fairly easy to upgrade the lights later, and you being an engineer shouldn't be a problem for you.
Hope that helps!

great! Thanks so much for the Encouraging Info. I look forward to shopping for a nano next pay peroid. My Girls not much of a DIYer like myself, she would rather not have my homade contraptions cluttering up her house.
. the nanos are very pleasing to the eye
When You say I could keep 2 fish in there does that include inverts and such?
Thank Everyone!

I was just refering to the fish load for the tank. For the most parts inverts have very little bio load. In my 14 cube I have:
Fish
1 Percula Clown Fish
1 Bicolor Blenny
Inverts
4 Scarlet Hermits
2 Tiger Pistol Shrimp
1 Halloween Hermit
And a ton of different types of snails. And this list doesn't even include all the coral I have either. =)
