This hobby stinks!! Literally

So, my first experience with uncured live rock has been fun. My first 75 pounds was cured from someone else's tank but I decided to reef my 10 gallon and needed more rock. It had a bunch of large sponges on it that I have been scrubbing regularly but this one rock had a huge one so I took it out to scrub again and discovered half the rock was sponge!! I got out a knife and started cutting it off and digging it out. Talk about the smell of death, thought I was going to puke, wins my prize for worst smell of the saltwater hobby IME. Right in front of skimmate and mushrooms out of the water. What's your pick for worst smell?

My worst was a BTA crawling into a deep hole to die after getting stuck in the intake. My living room reeked for hours
after taking the rock out & shaking the remains out of the hole into a bucket. Eeeew!

Definately uncured live rock, mushrooms out of the water or dead xenia, then skimmate. They are all extremely nasty.

i made my brother smell some skimate yesterday telling him it is the best smell he would ever smell

I take it everyone is referring to that sewage skimmers remove as "skimmate". That would be the worst smell I've encountered so far.

a dead snail's cone.....

go find a a dead snail in a tank thats been in there for a few days or week and pull it out and put it in your face.....have fun. worst smell ever.

Skimmate is smelly but great fertilizer. I pout it on plants all around my house and everything is really really greened then ever and I live in the desert.

Un cured live rock is the worst thing so far. My whole upstairs stunk for hours & still had a slight smell for a couple of days once in the aquarium/.

Anyone ever left a cup of frozen mysis sitting out for a couple of days? (forgot to feed fish on a Friday. Came back to the office Monday...)
That takes the cake as far as I'm concerned.

yeah maybe i shouldnt be swimming in my skimmer cup anymore. no really it smells like the water at the pier. i dont swim there!!!
