THIS is why you need RO/DI for your reef

Supposedly it removes flouride/minerals etc.. but i brush my teeth and have a varied diet -- not concerned especially after looking at my filters what I could be ingesting.
I've actually heard dentists say there is a rise in cavities due to people drinking bottled water and not getting the flouride they used to.
Pure water giving you liver damage? Haven't heard that one but it's the minerals in the water that give it it's taste -- that's why different cities have better tasting water or dasani vs aquafina.

Yes, I have heard of liver damage, but who knows...there's a lot of BS in this hobby

As for the mineral part...you obsorb more than enough when you shower (assuming you don't shower in RO water) so I think that this with a good diet would eliminate the issue of bottled or RO water being affecting your health. Too many minerals can be a problem too. I know someone who used to drink nothing but mineral water and eventually this led to ripping his stomach lining

That is gross. That is hard to believe, the EPA is ok with that (800ppm) water going to households? I thought our water was bad in the last place. I was talking to the water company guys at new house and they seemed to think that the clear looking liquid that was flowing from my pipes was not all that great. That scares me. I have a whole house filter on the way along with a ro/di for the tanks.
Maybe you should send those used filter to you city council members.

Couldn't have anything to do with the 20 monster energy drinks kids have these days!

I have read that RO/DI water is so mineral starved "since it is pure H20" that it will pull minerals out of your body thus being unhealthy for you, basically the same as someone suffering from over hydration.

I heard not to drink out of aquarium filters because you change them less frequenlty than normal drinking faucet filters. And normal drinking water filters dont trap most things. These "things" that aquarium filters trap arent harmful to consume, unless they are in greater numbers. When you get to the end of the aquarium filters life, there is a chance it can release the elements in a much more consentrated solution, therefore poisening a human.

I say LIES, LIES to the above 2 threads. Decide for yourself but after doing extra research on drinking from RO or RO/DI filters --- umm your just fine.
Also -- if you're lazy changing your reef filter and it's bad for you.. then it's really bad for your reef.

Oh man.... I'll try to remember to do this.... I'll get two glasses, leave them out overnight and you can see the fuzz on the bottom of the one unfiltered... but no guarentees if I remember as it would be a few days before I get to this anyways but would make a great picture.

RO water is fine to drink in fact most cheaper brands of bottled water are RO water. DI water is an issue, because it is demineralized the intestinal tract has to release electrolytes and minerals into the water for it to be of use which over time without the minerals being replaced will cause the body to become deprived of these minerals and electolytes. Small quantities of RO/DI water are harmless but if you drink large quantities and also have a low mineral diet it can make you sick, sailors, and outdoor survivalists are common victims to this since they commonly use demineralized water and have rationed diets.

Just changed my filters again after 6 months.... and as slow as they were running I should've known they were just as bad as the first picture. I guess I need to cut it to maybe 3-4 months instead of 6.

WOW Jackri thank you so much for posting this. I have been using water from the Glacier machines and though I havent had any algae issues I do have a slight level of phrosphates.
I really need to get one of these units soon.

Don't drink RO/DI water. Bacteria grows in the water sitting in there.

I have a facet off the RO side we drink out of. The RO/DI doesn't have a reseviour .. just the RO has the 3 gallon holding tank.
