ok ? i live 5 minutes from the beach's of pensacola and was wondering why i spent money on live sand when i can get all i want from goin to the beach and wading out a few feet and scooping some into a 5 gallon bucket or a cooler to transport back to tank and maybe fill my tank with actual saltwater.
what u guys think am i completely crazy in thinking of this or would it be a inexpensive way to set up a tank.
right now i am cycling a 55g with some sand and one peice of rock and 4 damsels (lfs advice). now i am researching and reading articles for everything.
was just curious if u can do this for a reef tank or if the lfs was rigth.

From what everyone says, its best not to use sand/rock/water from the beach due to the things so close to shore that can pollute your tank. I have no first hand with it I'm just telling what what I've read. Hope it helps

It is also HIGHLY illegal in several areas. I wouldn't even think of it unless you know the law well. Might end up being mighty expensive live sand.
