This should be on the Newbie board

He's been all day in the right group of rocks, the rest of the fish always sleep and hide in the left one.

In the full tank shot...the fish that's at the top (the light colored fish), towards the middle of the tank...
What species is that?

Please, email me and let me know where you got this fish.
I have been desperately searching, for months, without any luck.

You should be fine with that setup for your eel. I think he'll give you fewer problems than the triggers. That Sagassum is beautiful! Is that a Picasso in there also?
You can take him back if you want but They are good looking eels and are fairly active so you will get to see it often.
I have a total of 3 eels in my tank and my jeweled is the only one I see regularly, the others I see once every 2 or 3 days.

Stella, I am sorry for possibly providing you with misinformation. Being that I have never kept a Muraena Lentiginosa eel before, I did not know anything about them from personal experience. I went to a few sources for some quick info, and four places I read said:
"These eels are very aggressive in the aquarium, and will eat any fish, crustacean or other eel that it can swallow" (popular retailer - not always the most reliable)
"This eel is aggressive and will attack fish, especially while in a feeding frenzy." (another popular retailor - not always the most reliable)
"Feeds mainly at night on crustaceans and fishes." (FishBase - usually very accurate)
"Will this eel eat my fishes?
<Possibly, yes>" (Bob Fenner - Wet Web Media - usually very accurate)
Nevertheless, good luck with the eel! I like your trigger a lot!

What I do is start with just dropping a few pieces of food ( vitamin and garlic soaked fish, and shrimp and scallops ) into the tank and when the eels stick their heads out I use some long tongs to get a few pieces to them.
Psycho ( my jeweled ) will actually come out to where the food is and just get what he wants. Even with everyone competeing in the tank I have not had any issues with him.

Thanx I know you are experienced (great research skills
) and you really want to help people, I would never disregard your opinion, that's why I'm still thinking about taking it back. I also know for a fact that some fishes have their own personality like the picasso, sometimes they can be REALLY aggressive sometimes not. More replies of people who actually have it wouldn't hurt though...

thanx again for your help

At night or during the day?

Usually at night when I get home from work, on the weekends they get fed more towards the middle to late afternoon. The eels get usually 1-3 strips of cut fish depending on how hungry they are.
Mine cruises around the tank during the day as well as at night, that why I'm kinda partial to the jeweled. My frimbriated hardly ever comes out and I also have an american eel ( non-moray ) that only comes out every now and then.

I totally agree. That is why SWF.com is great. You get a lot of great advice from MANY intelligent and experienced aquarists.
By the way, thank you for the compliments.

thanx, I tried giving him krill (that's what they told they were feeding him), and some shrimp, squid, clam, with garlic, and nothing. He smelled them opened the mouth a little but wouldn't bite, maybe he's not hungry

I have found that sometimes my eels will go a couple days w/o eating. My Fimbriated has not come out for food for about 3 days now. He usually wants food about twice aweek, yours may just not be ready to eat yet. how long have you had him(her)?
Try a small strip of fish cut off of a cheap filet. You can go to the grocery store and buy whatever white meat fish filet is on saleand cut a couple pieces off of it and try that.
Mine prefers fish to shrimp and scallops.

Probably just getting accustomed to the tank and tank mates.
It's not uncommon for Morays to go on hunger strikes.
My Hawaiian Dragon has gone 5+ months, without eating and my Whitemouth has gone 4+...I cant remember the exact time frames.
He'll come around...dont worry about it. Just keep offering food, whenever you feed the other fish. Also...get him on a good diet, meaning leave out the krill. Keep it up with the fish, shrimp and scallops.
