This thing ate my pep shrimp

This thing in the attached pic had my Peppermint shrimp in it, what the hell is it? Should I get rid of it, or was it just a stupid shrimp for getting caught?

I'm not sure - but I think it's an anemone of some kind.
I'm very interested in seeing what other's have to say about these, because I think I have the twin brother of your's in my tank. Very sticky to the touch - I know that for sure.

I sent it to That Pet Place .com, there is a Marine biologist on the site, he said he thought it was a Anenome Majado or something.
I was wondering if this will be a patter, this thing eating stuff in the tank, are you keeping yours? Have you seen it eat anything?

I had a bunch of these things in my tank. I tried killing them by injecting buffer into them but it did not work to well. After being aggraveted with them I decided to sell the two peices of live rock that contained most of them. (15 pounds or so)I dont think though that they ate your shrimp unless he was sleeping on top of one of them. I have not had any real problems with them except one bleached an acro slightly where it was rubbing agaist it.

I also have one of those mine is getting very big. but i did not know what it is so i set up a 10 gallon and put it in there with a couple of pounds of live rock i will watch and see what happens.

well megadon, im pretty sure that its not anemonia majano. to tell you the truth it looks more like a corallimorpharia, of the genus corynactis, or possibly Pseudocorynactis. these guys are fairly small, an dare often light red, brown or white, and do have very powerful stinging cell, although they arent harmful to us. to tell you the truth i think its one fo these guys, but who knows. how big is it? i would leave it in there if i were you. i just dotn think its a majano anemone, cause i have these all over in my 135 and i have a ton of shrimp in there as well, and they have never gotten a shrimp!

I haven't seen it eat anything other than some frozen food bits.
Not sure if I'll keep it or not - so far not a nuisance.

Thanks for the input, I wish I took a picture when the shrimp was in it, it's tentacles were sticking out of it. I would say it's an inch in diameter and it protrudes a couple inches out of the rock at times, once in a while it shrivels up and looks like a little balloon.
I guess I'll just chalk up the loss to a dipshit shrimp, who wandered where he shouldn't have.
