Thanks Thomas for the help.Royal gramma died and the tail was gone.It looked kind of shabby. The basslets tail doesnt look too good. Maybe tail and fin rot ? I put Maracyn-2 in the tank. The hippo looks good, yellow tang has red streaks and the healthiest is a blue damsel. This is fustrating.

The blackcap basslet has been floating sideways on the surface for 2 days now. If you touch it,it will swim. It has been eating. Any idea what is wrong and can fish survive after they are like this ? Thanks

That level of ammonia is toxic to fish. Do several water changes daily using water from your main tank if necessary.

I have been taking water from main tank and diluting it with freashwater to get down to 1.009. Is that right or should I forget the hypo and start bringing back to normal level and get fish back in main tank. The level has been at 1.009 since Oct. 25. Thanks

Your plan sound right to me, that is what I would do so that you don't wind up changing conditions to fast on fish that already have problems to fight with. Have you considered the use of garlic or selcon or other type of vitamin suppliment to stimulate appitiete?

I have been alternating soaking food in zoecon and garlic guard. The hippo, yellow tang and damsel are eating fine, but the basslet shows no interest. Thanks

Ammonia and nitrates are going down at last.I have been doing daily changes, about 7 gallona day. I will cut back on the feeding.I thought fedding will be better for them. What do you think about the eye? could it recover ?

Any protein that you feed the fish which is not put into growth of the fish is broken down to amino acids and then to ammonia in fish (to urea in humans). I hadn't thought of decreasing feedings but I agree with Thomas.
You may be killing them with kindness!
