Thoughts on a "Skilter"

I'm fairly new at this, I plan on a FOWLR tank and then upgrading to a mini-reef tank in the future. I'm only going to buy 3 fish for my 55 gallon tank, a clown, a damsel and maybe a blenny until I get the mini reef going. My question is this, has anyone used the Supreme Skilter 250?? by Danner?? If so do you recommend it??

HAVE HEARD ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT LIKE THEM, I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTINA A GOOD SKIMMER BECAUSE YOUR GOING TO NEED ONE WHEN YOU GO REEF, AND GO WITH A REFUGIUM OR SUMP OR WET DRY FILTER
DONT GET THE DAMSEL THEY CAN BE LITTLE DEVILS

he he skilter, not a bad skimmer for the basement the 450 model that is. My skilter makes so much noise I took it off. If you not a broke man I would def recomend at least a decent hang on skimmer or if you can't afford a skimmer look at sumping your tank and then hook up a skimmer down the road, tis what im doin. :jumping:

The advice I have always been givin by those who take the hobby seriously is to buy a separate skimmer and filter.
Many skimmers nowadays are not much more expensive than the filters. I saw a nice skimmer in the store for $73, which I think is a great price considering that it looked like decent quality hardware.

:hilarious my skilter cracks me up. i rid myself of all hangon filters and pumps and did the whole airwave type powerheads thing w/a fluval (the quietest filter in the world!). then i had to get a sale item skilter at my lfs. they told me not to buy it, but it was cheap. it does the job very well if you like to clean it every couple days. but IT'S LOUD AS HECK! i can hear it anywhere in my 3bdrm apt., and outside. on the other hand, i could usually hear my air pumps every couple months when they needed a complete rebuild.

Here's my opinion of the skilter.
They suck and they're VERY noisy. Is it better than nothing? Of course it is. It may serve useful in case of emergencies. However, its performance is lacking and it's just too damn loud. Also, it produces a lot of micro bubbles in your tank.

Hello,
I"m a newbie but I use and know a few people that use the Skilter 400 for thier main pump and skimmer.I have had no problem with mine and thing it works just fine, it produces the foam and it gets collected in the collection tray.
If you use it don't use the air injection method like the instructions say, instead get an extra air pump, air tubing, and airstone place the airstone in the bottom of the silo and turn it on I thing this works 100% better than the supplied method of air injection, and it's 100% quiter.
Also if you use the method I suggest you will have no micro bubbles in your tank.
