I'm converting my 80 gallon to a reef and was looking at the Current USA lighting system. Anyone have any advice? Is 150 Watt enough or should I look for something with 175Watts. I also read somewhere that VHO actinics are better than Power Compacts. Is there a reason why? Any advice before I spend almost $700 on lights would be appreciated.

Everyone has different opions on lights and lots of opinion's are given. So this is my opinion and take it as such. First off i would go with the vho's. I had pc's and vho's and i like the blue vho's better and there suppose to penitrate deepeer into the tank. I would also go with the de bulb there suppose to run a little cooler while puting out more light.
Also how deep is your tank if its deeper then 20 inches i think you should go with 250 watt bulb (someone can chime in on this). I am looking at buying i used set-up and retro a mh bulb in it and saving alot of money.

I have not used this light but I have heard only good things. You can keep low light corals such as mushrooms and such on the bottom of the tank and the higher light corals in the middle and up. The HQI bulb is actually supposed to put out double the wattage it states. So each bulb would be more towards the 300 watt range. I was also looking into getting this system because it just mounts on the top of the tank. I would say go for it if you would like a nice mixed tank, hard corals in the middle towards the top and the lower light corals on the bottom.

Yes. I have the outer orbit on my 90 gallon reef. Works great.

what are you keeping in your tank? Do you find any limitations? How is the heat? Do you have it hanging or sitting on the tank?
