Three year old tank 2 year old problem

i would add 2 queen conch's to your tank. The brown stuff is diatom algae. It is growing in low flow areas of your tank. Run a phosphate sponge once to remove silicate and then run it again right after. Even if the test reads 0 there are still phosphates in there. The conch's will get rid of that brown styff in no time.

I have 3 powerheads in the tank all three with Bioflos (900, 1200, 1200) not including the fluval and the uv all blowing in the tank and the return from the sump

I think you could also use some more flow in your system. That can help keep that stuff from growing on your substrate.
You should also cure all live rock before adding it to your system. This will prevent the rise in the ammonia level.

I bought a six inch detrivore sea cucumber for my 55 gallon and he cleared up all the brow/green sand very nicely. The cuke only cost me $14.

OK I'm going to try the Chemi Clean again. And will keep everyone posted on the results. I have turned off uv my fluval and the skimmer says to do this for 24 hours. if it isn't gone. i'll wait 48 hours and try again. and see.

some batches of Oceanic salt have been found to sky rocket your calcium levels.
If you don't have a high load of calcium needing inhabitants. Don't use a calcium additive. from what I've read calcium should be around 450..
Usually just doing a water change will be all you need if you have a small number of calicum "eaters"
There is a thread on another board that has step by step monitor and changed his salt because of this exact issue... the new batch of OCeanic containmentat 40 some gallon of a closed water storage containter...
good luck

I was using Instant Ocean, I just switched to Oceanic on my last water changed. This has been an ongoing problem for 2 1/2 - 3 years . I also recentley put three Bioflos on my power heads so that the water flow is getting through the whole tank. oh here is a pic of my nano tank.
