Time a Metal halid should run a day

How long should one run metal halids for a 24 hr period? I am going to shoot for around 8 hrs, is this too long or just about correct? I am going to run the attenics for around 10-12 hr. Please let me know time frames!

I try to keep the entire light period to about 8 hours. Here how my light schedule is:
Acinics 11:30-7:30
Halides 12:30-6:30

I run mine from 12noon til 7pm but I've run then as long as 10am to 9pm. Basically I feel is fine to run them anywhere from 6-12hrs so long as you arent running into algae problems from running them extendted periods. that will vary depending on alot of things including subjective assessments of excess algae and/or maintenence.
