I have a blue jaw trigger who has stoped eating for the past three days and wedged herself in between rocks. ill move the rocks around and put food infront of her and she just moves in between another rock. with no visible difference on her skin and no knick or cuts, im stumped here is what I know
she was first in the tank 9 weeks ago and took to eating brine that day
traits .0 ppm
phos .0 ppm
amn.0 ppm
sg 1.026
temp 78
ph 8.2
rapid breathing
4 small hinniocous added 5 days ago with no visible conflict between the two
Im stumped and I know if she dies its too late to add another trigger with them being so shy, am I missing somthing?

Ive read most of terry b's post about stress and have come to the conclution that she is adjetated about the 4 new hinnies I just added. the questian is with this being the 4th straight day that she wont eat what should I do? I dont have a qt but I did shut the lights off and closed all blinds that could leak any light into the tank. do you think that I could cause photo shock after just one day?

Don't keep the lights off if you have photosynthetic life in the tank. What sized tank is this? I was thinking stress from the new additions as well. Have you tried offering different foods? Is she coming out at all or does she stay in the rocks?

she stays in the rocks untill I move one she is hiding behind. then slowly moves to another hiding spot. this is in my 125 and the other tank mates are a blue angel a yellow tang and a dimond gobbie. yes I alternate between 6 different types of sanfransico bay brand foods over a course of 3 to 4 days. she loves the angel blend of myses shrimp so I feed that with two different types of brine the past two nights. this is a fowlr tank but didnt know if I would make her more unshure of her suroundings with the lights off

I would run everything normally and leave her alone. Heni's are not terrifying fish. She should come around.

what about her not eating? should I force feed or leave her alone? thanks a ton sep
I would honestly just leave her alone and let her come out by herself. If you keep looking for her then she is going to be more frightened. A few days without eating is not going to hurt her. I assume that she was healthy before, correct? If it becomes a real concern then you can always move her to the QT. I think that allowing her to explore by herself is the better way to go here.

I'd think that she is getting harassed, but you haven't noticed. I'm assuming this occurred right after introducing the other fish?

yes she ate great for two nights with the hinnies and the stayed out of each others eating area during feeding but after the third night she just hid. she still looks healthy just breathing rapidly. the hinnies and the blue jaw have different teritories though. My hinnies stay up in front of the rocks and the blue jaw stays in back of the tank. pluss he is about twice the size of the hinnies

That doesn't sound right. I could see if she was too scared to come out, but the food is coming to her. If she does not eat tonight then you may want to move her tomorrow. How does she look? Do you notice anything at all on her?

she blew the food away again last night and is loosing color bad. I cant see a thing on her and the way she has been hinding between the rock and glass Ive had some good looks at her. I dont have a QT tank but I could move her to my 46 reef, that would require me to remove my maroon clown and put him in the 125.

I wouldn't want your reef to get infected. Are there other fish in there? You will not be able to treat her in there should she have a bacterial infection or something. You may be able to get her eating again though. Do you have a spare tank laying around that you can cycle with some live rock in case she does need medication?

came home last night to the crabs picking at her, all of the other fish look great and are eating fine. I wish I could find out what went wrong, with my first tank I entered the hobbie with no knoledge so fish dieying was somthing I was used to. but this 125 I made sure that I went about it very slowly and in the order I thought was best, hate to loose a fish now that I have more info at my finger tips. when I pulled her out she had no signs of being piced on or parisites. if you can think of what went wrong let me know

I am so sorry that she died. It is hard to say what killed her. You didn't have her very long.

that and the fact she was eating well before last week kinda threw me off gaurd. In your opinion do you think I should risk adding another blue jaw this late in the order or should I give up invert safe triggers?

I don't see any reason not to add one. If you do not have a quarantine then I would watch one at the LFS and be certain that it is eating well and completely healthy before buying it. If you have a good relationship with the store then get them to hold the fish for a few weeks.

Sorry to hear about the loss Sign, I agree with Sep but might add something to it...So often I go into a LFS, and go up to a tank with a Blue Throat and the fish scurries away and hides, since you have an established tank, I would hold out for one that doesn't...My Sargassum took 48 painful hours to acclimate, but now it never leaves the front of the tank (BT and Sargas. have very similar personalities IMO)....Good Luck.
