This maybe stupid. But do you have any powerheads. I get mad bubbles going on with mine. Ok now that I have thought about this, I am sorry for the post, though it might help.

I get that problem after a really aggressive cleaning or a large water change i ust use the cleaner pad and brush them off the glass and they are gone until the next big water change or cleaning.....

you could have a leak in the return line or the pump sucking air but it is probably from the overflow the water gets airated and makes micro bubbles i have the same problem the only way to fix it is install some more baffles and hope the air excapes before the return pump

yes i do have powerheads. i thought they might be the problem also so i turned them off. ill see if tomorrow morning there are none. i never really had this problem until i had powerheads put in come to think of it...so maybe they are the problem. if so how do i stop them from creating all these tiny bubbles?

Well my bubbles either go to the top and dissapate, or they cling to rock, heater, powerhead. So you if still have them in the morning that does not mean it is not from the PHS. I would brush a spot and then see if they come back, probably the only way to tell. HTH

where in the tank?
on the glass?
rock?
in the sand, adn coming out of the sand and floating up?
blowing in from the powerheads?

it seems that they are blowing from the powerheads and maybe from the return to the tank. there are also a lot of little air bubbles it looks like in the sand that release into the tank every now and then, but that is not nearly what this is(what are those anyways). these are a ton of tiny little air bubbles that float around in the water that look like dust. maybe they are dust, some go away once they reach the water surface others sit on the water level(maybe those are dust). i dont know.

the only powerheads i have set up are all at the top of my tank, so it cant be from them putting it on the sand. my sump pump is external.

If you have added any additives in your tank your protein skimmer will create this.

i have them off, i have a lot of dust circulating through the tank, probably from the hermits moving the southdown around. so i wanna get rid of that before i put them back on. i wnat the dust to either settle or go down the overflow, not circulate through the tank. ill play with the powerheads once i fix this problem/

yeah im pretty sure it's dust. i hate southdown. it settles on the water top and if i put my finger in the water only that one little patch goes away while the rest stays, bubbles would pop.
