What settings do you use to get the best pictures? I'm having trouble getting clear pictures with mine. I have it on the highest shutter speed and use a tripod. When I turn off the pump I get clearer pics but not perfect. So I'm thinking I just don't have the settings right. So if anyone has any tips I would be very greatful!

sounds like a good camera, but you can get a good XTi on Eday for about 400-700 dollars. thats where im going. do a search for 'Rebel' in the photography section and you will get pleanty of posts about how to shot.
* Not 100% sure, but i think i heard that the kit lens lowers the resolution on the XT. Not sure tho. im sure ox5runner can help you, i think thats his screen name.

Just practice. Start using in Ap and adjust the apature so you can see how the depth of field changes for you. plus if you have pumps on you probably will need a faster shutter speed to stop the movement. I would think 1/100 should be good. If need be bmup up the ISO dont be afraid to go up to 800 or even 1600 if needed. It does a good job with LOW noise. tripod is good. Also try not to shoot at an angle it will cause distortions. Play around in M mode as well. Changing the ap and shutter speed to see how they effect the final outcome and maybe you can dial in the perfect setting for your tank to use. best thing to do is just to keep at it and stay out of the preset modes and green box...no flash to..ESPECIALLY none of that pop up flash.
The kit lens is kinda ehh on sharpness. it has its best resolution at f8
