why dont you think this is a good idea, Beth? hypo may be a good idea, but there are a lot of us out there that cannot catch their fish. maybe tearing down the tank....
this method works very well for me. i've tried everything, but hypo and was battling with this problem for almost 7 months. i even went fishless for 6 weeks. that didnt even work....
hypo? = try catching a fish in a fully stock reef tank
copper? = your fish may make it, but you wont have a reef left :D
this method definately works for me. besides, there is no harm to run uv intermittently and doing weekly water changes.

yes, i know that fishman :D
again, you cant catch the fish. if you try, your just going to end up stressing the fish and tearing down your tank. same goes with hypo...

The answer is to QT your fish before they go into the display.
If you change large volumes of water in your tank every day then you might get by the ich, however, this is not really a good way to deal with a problem that hobbyists are constantly facing. If you have a 200 gal tank, how are you going to change 50 gals a day? If you have a reef tank, it is ill-advised to be constantly changing water chemistry or removing microfauna from the water column and replacing it with sterile water.

i never said daily water change :D
i do agree with you that qt and hypo is the sure way. but base on my experience, i went fishless for 6 weeks and it didnt help. added a uv and do my regular water changes for the last 2 1/2 months seem to fix the problem.
