Man, i can't wait to see this monster full with corals!! You could go with PC which the soft corals will thrive under but if you plan to keep a few SPS, then I would say go with the MH
Have fun!!

Finally got rid of those pesky micro bubbles almost two months of agony.
Now to add some corals.
The new MH's should be here by the first week in December.
I will post more pics when I get em.
Thanks for looking

I really like how you have your powerheads laid out, that's a great idea when using multiple lower output ones. Looking good, too. Can't wait to see more.

Very nice transformation, I am the same way my friend bought a 210 with a sump, 2 protien skimmers, 2 20 k mh lights, several rio power heads a rena xp3, 4 heaters, a 75 gal bow front with 265 pc's, fluval 404, red sea prizm skimmer, and stands for both tanks. 1300 bucks for both. I paid 250 dollars for the 75 gal setup. The 210 is now for sale. Buying used is the only way to go.

Update: 11/29/07
Heres the metal halides I got from a local guy.
Two 250 watt Ice Cap MH ballasts with Ushio(spelling) 20K bulbs, and a free 10K Ushio bulb (new) with two Luminarc reflectors. All for $300 bucks!!!

These things are gigantic. Easily cover my 6' tank.
Heres some pics.........now just to add some corals and build a canopy and "skin" like ifirefight's (thanks for the idea) for my newly acquired lights.

awesome! just wondering - when you add so much light like that, is it necessary to try to slowly acclimate your tank to the light? such as hang the light higher and slowly move it down to the tank? just wondering, since that is what we do when we get new coral.

I only had a few corals in the tank. Mostly mushrooms, so I wasnt too worried about acclimation.
But the answer to your question is yes. The common method is to use window screen layered a few times. each week you remove a layer and they slowly adjust.
Hope this helps.

Hey, just wondering... what would that light setup cost if you got it retail?

The luminarc III reflectors go for aroun $150 each.
The 250 IC ballasts go for around $125 each.
The bulbs go for around $90 each
The mogal sockets for around $25 each I think.
I put a piece of glass between the bulbs and the water (14 bucks total)
So total around $794 or roughly $800 new for total setup.
