Heya,
I am a Junior at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) and am about to start my first reef tank pretty soon. Will either be a 10 gallon or I'll save up and get a jbj 24 gallon...either way it sucks being a broke college kid.

I went to high school in Groton. Its a small town near Aberdeen, SD. Then I went SDSU for a few years, but dropped out a few years back. I build storm doors for Larson now. My girlfreind just had a baby a while back, which is why I'm always broke. I would love to trade stuff, when I finally get some stuff to trade. I haven't even cycled my tank yet, cuz I can't afford the LR right now. Not familiar w/ Safari, is that in SF? Also I would love to talk to your hook-up about buying stuff. I know they have marine tanks at a LFS in Watertown, but haven't been up there to check it out yet.

I'm a Freshman up in FSU in Tallahassee from the WPB, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami area. I just bought my first saltwater aquarium,a nano JBJ 24, from a guy just west of here, so I'll have it in this weekend. Man, the dorms here (at least mine, Salley Hall) are in the low 70s to high 60s, so i'll definatly have to invest in a good heater for my cube. I can't wait! I'll post more often once I get the tank settled in and figure stuff out with the help of my LFS.

i considered anderson, but chose TSU when i switched majors. there is at least one guy i went to high school w/ who is at anderson. Korey Flinn.
and i've lucked out so far. my mom has 3 tanks at home, so she gave me some water right out of her reef tank, live rock straight from the reef and fowlr, and a hermit crab. she bought me a pink button brittle star and some food at the lfs here in angola. and the tank, she bought me that. i'll i've bought is a thermometer so far. and when i'm ready for a fish, she will be giving me her false percula (or if the lfs gets a black false percula not mated, i'll buy one of those). can't wait for a fish! and i don't know of anyone else on campus who has a saltwater tank, i think there may be some guys w/ freshwater, saw them in the aquarium aisle at wal mart sunday night. hopefully there is. we did see a lady that works in our athletic dept. at the lfs, but all their fish keep dying, my mom was trying to give them advice. :happyfish

I am currently a radiology student at TMCC in Reno ,NV. I have 1-30g freshwater, 2-10g freshwater, 1-12 nano, 1-29 fo salt and my parents just donated a 80g hex plexi to me that I am currently just setting up to be a reef tank in my front room. at this rate I'm gonna be sleepin ON the fish. lol
Oh yeah it sucks to be broke. It costs more to feed my fish than it does me (j/k). I am addicted though.

hey, for all you guys in the dorms........ what do you do when it comes to having to transport the tanks during breaks (aka, like during christmas break, summer break, spring break, etc etc). Any good ideas, or would it just be better to sell the fish back to the lfs and buy new ones :(

trick - have a big enough tank and the proper filtration that takes care of itself :)
that = no problems
fish ...might want to take to the store..and ask them to hold it or something for you.
