To build a home for my evil hermit

Redcorsair gave me an excellent idea with creating a new home uniquely related to my tank. For it is a little too expensive for setting up a seperate tank for a guy. So basically my question is how would i do this? Like recorsair i named my hermit crab, Moridin, an evil aes sedai in the wonderful series 'Wheel of time'. SO now the name is out, how can i build Moridin a home because no one around here wants him and i really don't want to bring him to *****; i refuse to buy marine life from their unless it was JUST shipped. So, how do i do this?

if its one of those big hairy red ones like mine you will need more than a betta hang on. the shell mine is in now is over 6" across. i have mine in a 12 gal eclipse. no skimmer, no other filtration besides what came with the eclipse. i call it my exile tank. i use it just for unwanted hitchhikers and bad purchases ive made. the only things in it are my hermit, sandsifting star, whelks and blue legged hermits. i may also add 2 green chromis when i catch them. all of these guys were bad for my reef, but are interesting so i like having the extra tank to keep them in. i plan on using it as a q tank if i get any sick fish, but thank god i have not had any more illnesses in the last year and a half.
if you do keep it, remember to keep getting bigger shells for it. they grow unbelievably fast.

Killafins,
Where are you located?
What sort of $$ do you have, ballpark figure, for this project (sorry to ask, but it may give us ideas)?
What is your current set up (eg do you have a sump, overflow, anything- what sort of filter do you have?).
What are the odds of "investing" more into your main tank by adding a sump/refugium to it? (which would provide a home to your hermit as well).
For those who would be critical, remember, there are people who are interested in keeping a wide variety of animals and doing their best to take care of them, regardless of what is the easy way out. Mantis shrimp are the best example. And for taking this less than popular road, such people will get my full support, and whatever help/suggestions I can provide. If you would flush it or otherwise torture it until death, that POV has been noted.
