To glue or not to glue

Ok so I think I have a Green Star Polyp. I cannot get a picture because my camera is dead but I will try to describe it as best as possible.
It has a light tan top with a deep purple underside and out of the tan part little polyps pop out. The tan pad thing is only about 1/16th-1/8th inch thick. The polyps consist of little tentacle like things. The longer polyps have green tips to them.
I had taken the advice of other people on here and surrounded it with toothpicks on a rock to hold it in place while it attached itself. Well I left it alone for about 2-3 weeks and removed the toothpicks and it wasn't the slightest bit attached to the rock. Now it keeps falling off the rock I set it on and landing upside down.
My question is if it is safe to use super glue gel and glue the purple thing to a rock? This is the only way I could see keeping it in one spot without the toothpicks and I don't want toothpicks holding it in place forever. It just doesn't look very natural or good at all IMO.

LOL I thought you said it was a leather coral???? super glue is fine to use on the backside of GSP just dry the back and dry the rock spread a little on the rock and gently press it down.
Leather coral and GSP are a LITTLE different

It was sold to me as a leather so I assumed it was a leather, plus it kinda looks like its made of leather when the polyps aren't out. So it kinda made sense to me. This is why more and more I am not listening to my LFS guy who claims hes a Marine Biologist. I am still learning my corals. This is my first tank and all I have so far is a mushroom that I am not sure of the kind, some green zoas, xenia, and this gsp.
So one of the problems I might have is that this thing isn't exactly flat but I guess I'll figure it out.
Thanks for all the help man Corals are still new to me so any help is welcomed

BTW since you seem to know alot about corals maybe you can ID this one. This was given to me by my dad when my tank was done cycling. He just told me it was a shroom, nothing more.

super glue gel, locktight gel control, Krazy glue gel, all work equally well. I personally buy "the original superglue gel" right now because I can get three tubes for a buck at the dollar store so I go buy a case at a time, 24 bucks gets me 72 0.10oz tubes. or I buy krazy glue gel if I cant find that, I dont like the locktight plastic bottles too bulky for me, and thats all anyone seems to carry around here.

alright, thanks again man. I didn't know if one held better than another or if one was toxic or anything like that. I am headed to the dollar store right now to see what they got. Maybe I can find the same deal as you got.
BTW have you ever used 5 minute Epoxy? Just curious because I always have a thing of that on hand in my apartment. I love this stuff.

Yep same deal. They also have 5/8oz tubes of the regular stuff but not the gel. I picked up a 12 pack of gloves for $1 their too. Now if I just had something to frag. The only thing I know that would be anywhere close to big enough is my shroom you just ID'ed

Thanks again for the help

I just got done gluing him to the rock. Man that took about 1/100th of the time I have spent trying to position the GSP so that it wouldn't fall off. I wish I would have done that sooner.
I also grabbed a piece of Xenia that dropped off of its rock and glued it down but I think I might have torn its skin. Should I put it back in the tank and watch it or just toss it? I don't want it to mess up my tank but I would like to keep it if its ok.

Ok, I think it will be fine. Some of the smaller arms are now opening up. I had it sitting in a plastic cup under my lights. Hopefully it is fine. My other piece of it has been getting worse and worse since I moved my tank around. It doesn't really even open up anymore.

xenia is really fickle, believe it or not mine is crashing right now (xenia not my tank), I moved it about 8 inches to the left of where it was and its all dying off, thank god I was afraid it was going to take over. I have some in my frag tank that for some reason survived the tank crash when almost nothing else did. weird stuff.

Yea I have been moving my rockwork around since theres no fish in it right now (in QT being hypoed cuz of ich) and the one that looked the best now doesn't hardly even open and is getting slightly whitish. I am not able to tell if the one I glued is still ok or not thought. I don't know if it would even open after the first day. Is it better leave a dead/dying coral in the tank or take it out?

depends on your system, I leave them and just turn up the skimmer, and throw in fresh carbon, because you never know if at the last minute the coral may recover or have an offspring that wasnt seen before.... I also never discard dead skeletons for the same reason on LPS and SPS.
