Dude . Did you hit your head or something ? The toadies are far from even close to the greatest bands in the history of the earth . I wouldn't even call them one of the greatest bands of the 90's .

the lyrics to "I Come From the Water" actually ARE pretty clever. and the music to that song had an almost rockabilly-punk swing to it, which is something different than what most bands were doing. so where most bands were into copying each other, the Toadies were actually doing some things that were somewhat original. yeah.
oh yeah, here's the full lyrics to the song.......
I come from the water
I crawled upon the shore
I left my brothers there
I got what I came for
I sucked that hot air in
And rolled upon the sand
Emerged beneath the sun
To be a man.
I come from the water
I come from the water
That weren't no easy thing
It's more than nature
It's like my destiny
I stood upon these legs
And held my head up high
Emerged beneath the sun
To start a new life
I Come From the water
Life in the desert
Just to be together
The sand forever
The same forever
It moves beneath me
It pulls my body
My pulse beats hotter
So far from the water
I love to see the sun
In spite of all it's done
I pray for shade and rain
I pray to live again
I come from the water
I know you're a big Metallica fan. maybe you could point out some Metallica lyrics than are better than the ones above.

Metallica has great music and riffs. the lyrics and singing is atrocious.
you don't think the Toadies would be in the top 100 from the 90s? lol, that's pretty laughable.

as laughable as you thinking that Metallica's lyrics and singing are atrocious AND that the Toadies could even be more than a one hit wonder that rode the coat tails of many grunge/alternative rock bands...

Ok . I am not a big metallica fan . But with out a doubt the two bands are not even close to the same level .
AS far as rockabilly/swing sound . I can say that the toadies were not original in that venture . The reverand horton heat was kick ass at that time with the whole rock-a-billy sound.
There were bands of the 90's that made a far bigger impact on the music world that the toadies . Ranging from the grungy sounds of nirvana ,Pearljam , sound garden to the heavy sounds of slayer ,metallica,Anthrax.
I agree with RU .... The toadies while a fairly good band where far from top 100 of the 90's let alone to even rate on an all time scale .

we can debate on that post all day. MUSICALLY, Toadies aren't up there with Metallica. LYRICALLY, Todd Lewis is way up above and beyond Hetfield.
I like Rev Horton Heat. I'll give you at least that much for liking at least one good band. but the Rev has NEVER been mainstream. the Toadies were one of the few MAINSTREAM bands that were fusing that type of music into punk/rock/grunge.
then, you bring up Nirvana. Nirvana was a great band, and they were "groundbreaking" to the mainstream. but musically, they weren't groundbreaking at all. they were heavily influenced by bands like the Pixies and Dinosaur Jr, as were the Toadies. so in that respect (musically speaking), Nirvana was no more "groundbreaking" than the Toadies were.
but anyway, I'm not talking about "groundbreaking" or "impact on music", I'm talking about a great band. the Toadies two studio albums are two of the all around best albums I've ever heard. now, one can call them a one hit wonder, etc etc. but if one bases a "great band" on the number of hit singles they've had, then I don't even care to argue. based on their two albums and their live show, they are imo, definitely one of the top 5 or 10 bands of the 90s. if you say they weren't one of the top 100 bands of the 90s, then by all means, please name 100 bands that were better than them.

considering that Nirvanas albums came out 3 -5 years earlier (Bleach 89 and Nevermind in 91) than the Toadies first full length album i would say that the Toadies were not even close to offering anything new and were just another grunge/alternative rock band that got radio play because their music sounded like ALOT of other mainstream bands in the mid 90's... i wouldnt even rank the toadies with Collective Soul... maybe somewhere around Crash Test Dummies in the 200 range...

like I said, name 100 bands that are better.
and actually, the Toadies first self released demos and tapes came out in 1989. that happened to be the year that Nirvana's first album came out, which was basically self released as well since it took less than a week to record and was on a label that no one had ever heard of.

I don't like half of the above bands, but those are the only ones you could make a serious argument for being better than the Toadies. the rest of your list was a joke.
and it's also funny how you labelled Toadies as a Nirvana ripoff, yet put Local H, Bush, and Silverchair in your list. all 3 of whom were probably the biggest Nirvana ripoffs. at least Local H was a good band though. Bush and Creed?!?! lol, that pretty much negates any point that you could've been trying to make.
