by that logic, I guess B rittany S pears is one of the greatest artists ever since she sold a ton of albums.
then the other guy mentions the strokes, white stripes, and sonic youth in the same breath as the beatles, led zep, and the stones. lol. at least you do recognize that Local H is a great band, so you kind of make up for yourself a little.
thats simple man... if they were really that horrible then their albums wouldnt sell... as i said above GodSmack sold more albums on their debut than the toadies did with all of their albums combined... and you say they suck because of that success... genious... shear genious...
and B.rittany S.pears is an Entertainer/Performer and yes she is one of the best... not my cup of tea but atleast i can give her props for being able to put on a great show and have some catchy tunes that teeney boppers love... considering that she prolly hasnt ever written a song to mention her is just another diversion tactic and not even CLOSE to what we are talking about!!!

that is incredible logic. a band can't suck if they sell a lot of records?? where do you come up with these ideas? so McDonald's must be the best food on earth since they sell so many big macs.

To each their own. I can always go back and relisten to 311 cause every instrument stands out. You will be hard pressed to find a trio of intstrumentalists guitar/bass/drums like 311 they stand up to anyone including Led Zeps ridiculous lineup. They do have cheesy lyrics and not everyone likes Hexums voice or the rapping, but they can flat out play its pretty amazing.

Well no offense, but they named themselves after an AIC song, were an AIC cover band, and essentially tried to sound as much like AIC as possible. I mean honestly, its very difficult to give any band thats so blantantly copycat any respect at all.

come on now, you didn't meant to write that out loud.

If you don't know it, then you haven't really listened to them. Play Music or Grassroots and if you know anything about playing instruments then you'd know what I mean. I love JPJ, Bonham, and Page as much as anyone but 311 is really that good.

no, I've heard all the albums. they are very good musicians. Pnut is by far one of the best bassists of the 90s. but no way are they up there with Page, Bonham, and Jones.

well it obvious that they are doing something right...

its not logic or ideas its basic numbers my friend... success doesnt necesarily mean they are great, but it sure is a good indicator...
you have a product - people buy it - you get to stay around...
you have a product - people DONT buy it - you get to go away and maybe try again at a later date or just fade away into the abyss...
now whats so tough about understanding that???

Yet you call it good music because it has poetic lyrics and was "ahead of the time" . Good music gets listened to crap music gets tossed to the side like the garbage it is . BS.pears Put on a killer show and her songs are catchy . Not my top of the heap but shes been rocking a long time and makin coin doing it . Funny you can ask a hundred people who she is and 99% would know. The other 1% live in a cave . Now you could ask the same 100 who the toadies are and 99% would have no clue . The other 1% that would know are still living in a cave called 1998.

then not one band deserves any respect...

never heard that info... would love to see a source... cuz MetallicA was one of their biggest influences (along with several other bands) and the name GodSmack comes from Sully's beliefs...

Nirvana's Nevermind sold about 20 times more than all the Pixies albums combined, and yet Cobain said himself that he pretty much copied everything from the Pixies. pretty much everyone that's heard both bands would agree with him. but by your logic, due to the difference in album sales......
Nirvana = great
Pixies = suck
that's your logic, right?

dude, a "source" for what??? AIC has a song called "Godsmack" off the Dirt album. it is well known that they were an AIC cover band before they were famous. and anyone with a pair of ears can tell you they sound like AIC. what source do you need?

keep twisting to fit your needs...
the Pixies are a great band... they chose to go away and furthermore never tried to give the mainstream a shot...

Thats cause teenage girls spend more on music then adults these days. Teenage girls arent generally known for their fine taste in music though.

actually, I twisted it to fit YOUR logic. afterall, a band's greatness is determined by album sales, right?
