Toadstool Coral Death?

My toadstool mushroom coral had to be fraged due to a brown flakey scab that was covering the entire cap. I tried to scrape the scab off but when i did, i could see that the coral itself was getting eaten away or deteriorating some how. I had to cut the cap off and save what i could before it had spread any further. -Does anyone know what happened?

What are your water parameters, what all is in your tank(fish inverts and corals)

Parameters are all within normal range and i have other corals in the tank that are doing great. I have never had a problem with the toadstool coral except for the last week, i have had it for over six months. As for the fish i have a yellow tang a few clowns and a small porcupine puffer.

I also have various snails crabs and shrimp. Such as a hemits and cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, peppermint, tubo snails, and mexican turbo snails.

Well my toadstool went through a change where I thought it was dying. Turned out it just was unhappy and then sluffed off the mucas covering it had on it. It took about 4 or 5 weeks. It since has come back and has grown better than it was before. Toodstools sometimes do this and I have learned that unless they have a visible melting or dying area that you are better to just leave them be. Not sure what you have but pictures would help.

what is the closest coral to it. Also what kind of lighting and how long do you have it on a day. And it also may be what Gill again68 said. Try to post pics

Toadstools need medium to strong flow and medium light. Where did you have it positioned. High, medium, or on the bottom of th tank?

I have metal halide and vho. The toadstool sat on the bottom of the tank so no other corals were that close to it. But the closest corals would be mushrooms. And i fraged the coral, i tried to wait but i was afraid of the entire coral dying.

The bottom of the tank, iv had it at the same place since iv had it. I have had that coral for over six months. It grew over three times as large as when i first got it and i did not move it once.

Not bad, a couple pieces look like they might not make it. Ill try and get some pics up. The coral looked like its flesh was getting eaten away. Never seen anything like it.
