Toadstool leather developed whole

My toadstool leather developed 2 small wholes each 1/4" in diameter right in the top center. The next day one opened up at the stalk and now there is a big 2" x1" whole at the stalk. I did water tests and took some water to the LFS for testing. Both my tests and the LFS tests were great. I dont think its a water issue. Any thoughts? I will add pics tonight if you think it might help.

I had the same issue and my lfs told me to take my finger and dig a little flesh out of the hole, amazingly it worked and the hole healed and I never had the problem again

My toadstool leather has gotten so big it doubled over on itself. Where the largest fold is an abscess of sorts (more or less hole) developed. Now when I do water changes I use my siphon and suck out any decaying flesh from the abscess. My water quality is fine and so is the toadstool.

I am pretty sure that its splitting. It looks like there will be two in a matter of days.
