Toadstool Leather, whats's going on?

Ok I have had my toadstool for almost a month. A few weeks ago I noticed it wasn't opening, and just assumed that it was still adjusting. But then, after 3 days I got concerned and moved it up closer to the lights and the ph's sweep. Well in doing that I noticed this "film" on top off it that started to break lose. Almost like a thin layer of skin. It was easily blown off with a turkey baster and it almost immediately started to open, it took a few hours and looked good again. Now yesterday it happened again. Today I did the same thing as before and again within hours it was ok.
This can't be normal. What causes this? I am thinking I need to move it again into a stronger PH current to help prevent this. Hopefully thats all I need to do, but any help would be appreciated. TIA

Completely normal. I call it "sliming" cuz that's what it looks like. Mine did that a few days ago and now it's slowly popping all it's polyps back out.

Thanks. So its normal, thats a plus. :) It's in a moderate flow now, enough to just ripple the polyps, so I will have to move it to a stronger current. Then that should do the trick right? Also how often do any of yours do that, or is it noticable when its in the higher flow? Thanks again, I am seriously breathing a sigh of relief right now.

This is a neceassy process for growing. Mine has done this at various time, with spirts of shedding every 10 day to monthly.

Thanks Beth, actually I never thought of it as a growing process, but rather as non-suffecient water flow. Thanks all, its been open since original post and looks happy in its new spot in the tank. :)

Mine does this when it gets stressed out. For example, like when I'm cleaning my tank and my hand touches its base, or if I turn it around. Normally the following day it shrunk and couple of days later it shed the filmy stuff. Never thought it as a growing process. Hey learn new things everyday. Did you do anything unusual to your tank last week? Something that might stressed it out?

Dont remember if I did anything unusual. It is fine now though. I had to move it again, 2 days ago, because of needing to move a rock. That didn't seem to effect it. In the last 2 spots it has been in a pretty constant flow and in good shape, no film yet, and open alot. :D
