I Have about 8 toadstools that are on the trunk. recently i ordered another soft coral pack and the leather mushroom toadstool that came in pack is on a rock and is ruffled with no trunk just a lots of ruffles and i am not familair with this kind. My question is does this taodstool have the long 2 or 3 inch hairy type things that come out like the trunk style toadstool i already have. i see little hair type things that come out (just on the surface very close to surface just enough to change color of the tissue.)and dindt know if its in a incorrect position. its on the bottom,,. light to med flow,, And also is this type as easy to frag as the trunk style? thanks

sounds like you are describing a cabbage leather of some type not a toadstool leather. Depending on your light it should do fine on the sand bed.
I have no experience with fraggin cabbage leathers.

Do you have any pics? I just recently bought a yellow toadstool leather. or at least that what I thought it was and it also has small polyops?

do you have any pictures?
I have two types of toadstool leathers in my tank and have fragged both. Neither is, as you say, "trunkless." All look exactly like stemmed mushrooms. I have three varieties of caggabe leathers. The cabbage leathers have small polpys close to the leather that when extended resemble small star bursts.
What you described does not sound like a toadstool leather. It sounds like a cabbage leather.
I will post a picture of both of my cabbage leathers later tonight. Maybe that will help you.

Actually this website sells both toadstool and cabbage leathers. If you look in the coral section you will see pictures of both. However, the cabbage leather picture does not show it with polyp extension.

I think it may get a little more extension with more light, but it is just a different breed. some have long polyps and some do not. same with the trunk.
Definately a NICE Toadstool though.
