Tomorrow is 9/11. Does that have any significance in your life?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Like pearl harbor day is at least to older folks 9-11 is a day for remembrance of a horrific event. Holidays are a celebration of a person or event.
Yes, It is a holiday in my house. My husband's birthday.
You should be able to mourn all of the loss and still enjoy "Your" day.
He remember's - but he also can't change the day on which he was born.

This is my point. I don't think that 9/11 should be forgotten. I don't think "its just another day!!!no differnt than any other day", as stated so elequently by Slack. To forget, or pretend that it didn't affect the people of this country is an injustice. This is JMO and I respect that most appear to have a different view.

the only injustice is now we have 2 pay a 9/11 tax to fly

I'm of the train of thought that we should leave it business as usual. And stick it to the little ***** that did that by continuing with our lives.

I DO know where you are coming from because I had the same thought... like they are over there High-Fiving each other while watching us cry and grieve. Like they have popcorn ,and are sitting on the coach ,cheering as the plane hits the building again and again on every channel.
But if nothing else, this is now all about the families and people directly involved. How could we ever let them think for a second that we have forgotten what they went through and what they have lost.

I agree and think that this should be the priority. I have worked 1/2 day so far. Didn't hear a word about 9/11 from anyone in court this morning... not the judge, attorneys or people in the audience. No one in my office has mentioned anything either. It's like people are just forgetting all too quickly about the victims... or those who do remember are more focused on winning a mental war with the terrorists than honoring the victims.
My concern is that in a few years, September 11 will only be significant in the history books. Nobody even notices when December 7 comes and goes anymore.

Thats a whole lot different than having a national holiday. My Birthday happens to fall on D-Day, whole lot more people died on that day than 9-11 but that didn't stop us (Older brother was also born on that day) from celebrating.

My concern with making it a national holiday would be that it would eventually, if not right away, turn into another "3-day weekend" for most people. Just another day off work, to sleep in, and have a BBQ. How many people look at Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day for what they actually are, rather than a nice long weekend to go to Disney Land?
I do not think it NEEDS to be a holiday to be remembered. It will always be with me, I will remember what happened, where I was, what I did, and all. Just like the people who were around for Pearl Harbor did/do. 09/11 will never just go away.

I actually agree with the Pearl Harbor example; of course Pearl Harbor were largely military casualties so there is some difference.
We're at war. Let's focus on obliterating our enemy. When we are done we can commemorate our dead on Memorial Day and celebrate V-Terrorist Day. Until then let's use it as a day to re-focus and remember.
Crimzy and others; I apologize to you all for the insensitive comments posted on this thread. They have been removed and the poster has been addressed. As Mods we never remove posts strictly for an opposing opinion; However, these posts were clearly over the top and were meant to rub salt in a very open wound.

The history channel ran 2 specials last night, I kind of forgot the emotion of everything that happened that day... The footage was from people who shot the events on their personal cameras and from news cameras on the ground. The sight of people jumping was simply gut wrenching... not to mention the personal stories of the heroic efforts of individuals... such as the guy who predicted 9/11.
The chaos of the whole situation was really amazing (probably not the best word choice) but I am not sure how to decribe the utter terror that people experienced that day on the streets on NYC and around the country.
Did anyone watch the Service Forum?

That is a little insensitive. I am sure they don't want to hash it out. If they wanted to discuss it they would have already.

So, your mom passed away on 9/11 and you still make comments like "it's just another day?"

Maybe it is just the way he has moved on, or wants to deal with it. We shouldn't judge him on that, personal choice. However, I don't think he should be saying generalized statements as he did above to the rest of the board is called for either.
