The current issue of TIME magazine has a picture of a beautiful dog with an odd looking tongue. I've asked the editors whether or not this is an optical illusion. While I wait for a response, what do you think?

The side ends of the dogs tounge are curled up i believe.
I did a search this morning concerning Pit Bulls and their tongues and found no mention of tongue clipping. That, too, was my first concern. Nobody at work ever heard of it, either.
When my bully gets excited and hyper his tongue curls and starts to turn purple. Snub nosed breeds are bred for the shorted noses but that often compromises their breathing passages and sometimes they can't get enought oxygen to their brains (what brains, lol). I really think this guy in the picture is hot and nothing more sinister than that although his ears have been clipped.

what brains? lol. i often wonder that about my pitbull too. hes so stubborn!! but very gentle and kind
i agree that its just curled on the sides
True story, and it in no way applies to this. A friend of ours was on the cover of Time. She had her picture taken by a photographer as a modeling test session. She ended up on the cover of Time and was never told about it. They photoshopped some flowers in her hair and some cell phone equipment on her. Someone who knows her saw an advanced edition of the cover and called and told her.
Now back to the dog tongue controversy.......
My vote is that the dog's tongue is rolled.
Now the question is whether or not a dog's ability (or inability) to roll its tongue is genetic. In humans, the ability to roll one's tongue is a dominant trait. Is it the same in dogs, or can they all roll their tongues if they choose to do so?
Could someone please find an answer to my question by morning? I'm off to bed now!
I realize that I'm performing thread necromancy here, but I just found out (newest issue of Sports Illustrated) that the person holding that dog's leash is none other than Michael Vick.
