too cold for shipping????

rich i think you will have no problem with your order. i just read the contact section of swf.com and it states swf ships year round at ALL TEMP RANGES. destination temps for each individual package are determined daily and cool packs or heat packs are included when necessary. swf has been shipping fedex since 99 including ALASKA DEAD OF WINTER.

I learned the hard way today, ordered from California company, not SWF. I am in SC, ordered last Wednesday. They didnt ship until yesterday, Thursday, arrived today in about 25 degree temp. Been much warmer all week until today. 1 starfish, 2 feather dusters, 3 shrimp didnt make it. 1 lobster is okay so far. Water temp when I opened box was 69 degrees. Had a heat pack in box but it was already cold. Ive only had salt about 5 months so I learned hard way. Seems like they would have shipped early inweek when temp was around 50 degrees. Live and learn.

We have not shipped to the midwest and Northeast since midweek. We look at the temperature the night of the shipment and the next day for each individual orders zip code and our packers put the appropriate number of heat packs for the size box sent.
Our success rate is very good, but sep makes a great point. Believe me, no one here is out to make a buck by shipping dead fish.
I do understand and appreciate that. However... Today it was 30 degrees.
a phone call... an email... a quick SQL statement to the national weather service database to calculate current vs. future temperature for shipment and a note when ordering saying it's too cold to ship to you would go a long way in the customer service area.
I ordered this week because I was at home this week. Next week may be a problem which means if I have to take a day off to receive it, the savings kind of go bye bye.
So OK... Good to know. no winter orders.
