Sup guys, I'm getting ready to set up a 65 wide soon, just waint'n for the tank. N E way, I want to drill it when it gets here (more than adequately experienced in the process) but what is the limit I would be able to get away w/ on the bottom pane?? I want one in the corner over flow box (1" bulkhead), and 2 in the display area (3/4".) I also plan on placing the tank on a flat piece of plywoodw/ 3/4" foam.. Whataya think??

most tanks come with tempered glass on the bottom. How do you plan drilling it? I thought tempered glass would shatter if you drill it. I'm moving and after I move I'm going to drill the back of my tank for an overflow and return.

Yes, temper will shatter.. I got it coming in from glasscages, its not tempered, no worries.
I have a glass drill press.. I've done it a few times

I also would say that you should give your self a minimum of 4 or 5 inches off the corners too.
Nothing like I did. Too close to the corner and two months later BOOM refugium bottom blew out and sent water, sand, rock all over my basement floor.

3 will not weaken the bottom of the tank.....I've seen tanks done with more than 3 from top tank builders and isn't an issue, but like advised stay away from the edges.

Thanks again guys, I cant wait 2 get this started. I got the tank coming in, but I had them just include the pieces of glass for the overflow. That way I can put it exactly where I want it. OK! I'll shut up now
