Too many Mushroom Corals....

Hi,
Haven't been here in a long time...but here is my problem
I have a 46 gallow tank. It is overrun with stripped mushroom corals!!! I can't add anything else to the tank because of it...
They are even beginning to kill my other corals. I have even added a third powerhead,but they still expand to their full size and irritate everything else.
How do I get rid of them?
Selling isnt an option becuase they are on everything, mostly my 5+ pound rocks..
I have tried scrubbing but that does not work...too gooey..What if I cut them and let some hermit crabs finish off the base? That already doesnt sound good....

Of course selling isn't an option, just give some to me for free!

Why not sell the mushrooms and lr and charge enough money to get more lr. If lr costs 5$/lb then charge that plus mushrooms on it. Just my 2 cents.

if you get some really sharp razors or some like that you can usually scrap or cut off the bit of rock that they are attached too, then send them to me!

I thought about that but nothing in the stores today can compare to these rocks...Everything I have seen in the last few years I wouldnt even consider rubble...
That and I just dont have the space or resources (college kid) to cycle new rock.

frag plugs>? buy a bag of those little frag plugs, slice them off your rock and glue one mushroom each to each plug. keep them for a week to make sure they dont croak, then sell/trade them to your LFS. you could always ask them to just give you store credit for them or something.. theres always going to be something to buy. You could also trade them and get something new! you dont have to rip out your rocks. the ones in the pic below I just googled frag plugs and they were 20.00 for a 50 pack.

"Slice them off your rock" As in take a razorblade to it and paste it onto that plug? Or do you mean chip off my rock and glue the piece of rock to that plug? Cuz if its the chipping of the rock thing I would prefer not to...
If its the slicing them with a razor blade.. What happens to the base left behind on my rock...Will that just die and be eaten or will it regrow...I do not want to regrow...

You can do several things, Try peeling them off with a finger, then attach them to those reef plugs. If that doesn't work use a razor blade and cut them as close to the rock as possible and again attach to the reef plugs. The base will most likely regrow so you have some options. You can let them regrow and cut them off again if they get too big, or you can paste them over to keep them from regrowing. But I would try slowly peeling them off with a finger, they should release their hold with a little coaxing.

shrooms are notoriuos for growing back if you leave a portion of them on the rock. Try your best to get them off. Itll take a long time for the remains to regrow a big shroom anyway.

Oh they grow wicked fast in my tank...I have no idea why, or what I did to create such conditions but they are like weeds, Huge too...all of them...Its like when Xenia takes over...
Thanks for the help...I guess Ill have to do the slice and scrub...

I know you said you dont want to give up the rocks, but honestly, I would check around on here and ask if someone or a few people have some cool rock formations you could trade for yours with the shrooms on them. Have them email you the pics of the rocks they have with the dimentions. It's a win win for both of you.

Yeah try to cut them with the razor as close as you can from the base and glue then on to reef plug for your trade at your LFS. Thats what most people suggest. I'm sure your LFS will let you trade or give you store credit. Then once they accept and you got your coral that you want why don't you try to glue the coral onto to the base where you cut the mushroom before so that way the mushroom that you cut off from the base won't regrow. Maybe try that way if going to work thats just my suggestion to you since you said that you don't want the mushroom to regrow.

sell them on the bay of e/ You can also crack your rocks apart with an ordinary hammer (out of the tank, which should go unsaid) to reduce weight for shipping, adn allowing you to keep as much live rock as possible.

Yes..I am..
I am stubborn and content with the rocks that I have. They are beautifully covered with coraline algae unlike the rubble that all stores in my state carry.. I also do not want to deal with the hassle of packing and shipping them and selling them..
My tank is 46 gallons and has a total of 365 watts of MH and VHO light...(8 watts/gallon). I rarely do water changes...which isnt the best thing but it seems to work..Haven't had a problem yet..
I'll post some pictures.
You can't seem them all since its night and the lights have been off for about 5 hours now and they are still stressed because we just moved the tank into a different room Sunday (house renovations). But trust Saturday they were all a good 1.5-2 inches around all over everything. I scrubbed the largest rock which seems to have helped some.

Ok here are pictures
I did a rough count and I lost count at 180. that does not include this first rock which is about the size of two fists, and it also doesnt include the dozens that i sucked up and threw out the door with the water when i moved the tank the other day..
