I have been fighting red algae on my gravel. I have been changing 10gal of water ever one to two days after stiring up the rock to get the algae mobile. Is this too many water changes. Do I lose things I need by doing this? thanks.terry

its the only real way to fight back. keep it up and you'll win. might cut back on the lighting a little if you haven't allready.

I have not had a diatom problem since a week after removing all bio filters in my tank and I only have a 30gal with 7 fish. Lots of waste being produced in my tank, but the nutrients are removed between my LR and my skimmer. My nitrate test kit by seachem starts at 10ppm and doesn't register anything. Follow the link and look at my pics for proof.
I just looked at your pics, nice tank!! Hope you can fix the problem. I noticed a window close to your tank in the first pic on page 3, is it letting sunlight in your tank? I'll shutup now, you obviously know as much as I do.

TB,
Is the algae growing everywhere? Or is it growing on the substrate? Mine was covering my floor of my tank. Hermits, less lighting, and a powerhead stirring the water down below a little more got rid of it all.
All I get now is the green stuff from time to time on the front of the tank.
