Too Much Algae???

I have recently added a 200 watt light setup to my tank and the algae is ridiculous (see pics). It looks like seaweed. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? How can I control it. I bought an algae eater fish but my Niger Trigger went straight for him so I had to move him to a friendlier tank. Thanks for anybody's help.

what kind of water are you useing you have a major algae and cyno bacteria outbreak going on. the green slimy and maroon slimy looking algae is cyno bacteria usually brought on by high nutrients and not a lot of flow. the other green algae is hair algae and feeds off of excessive nutrients and phosphates in the water. so my thought you are useing Tap water is that correct>?

I have a ro/di filter so that is the only water that I use. The algae moves back and forth so I don't think that there is a water flow problem.

when was the last time you checked your filters for the RO or checked the TDS of the outgowing water.
the hair algae will wave but normally the cyno apears in lower flow areas. what are your tank readings at?

I have to get some more testing supplies for the water. How do I test the filter on the RO? I have never done it. Thanks

I would venture to guess that you feed several times a day? It's just an observation, but most algae outbreaks are fuled by excessive feeding and not enough flow.....Jim
