too much hardware

I have a 28 gallon bowfront which i have a hang on the back penguin bio wheel filter, and i have an aquaclear powerhead......yesterday i just received my coralife 65 protein skimmer and now my tank packed with hardware......I'm curious what i can do about this stuff.....for example do i need to run the HOB filter still since i'm skimming and my tank is so small? or what would it take to set up a sump for the skimmer and how large would it need to be? just curious if i have any other choices....i would like to have room for livestock in tank in addition to the hardware.....it's currently looking like a hardware demonstration

If you have enough LR and a skimmer you can probobly do away with the HOB filter and only use it for polishing the water from time to time.
