too much of a good thing?

i have a 40g tank, going to be fowlr, is 70lbs of sand too much?
i have 50 oldcastle and 20 ls.
also, i know i need 40lbs of lr (1lb for every gal)
can i add the rock incrementally? like, 10lbs right now, and the bal by the end of the cycle?

I have 40lbs in my 29g aoo i would say no it should be fine.
