I currentl have 2 fairly large powerheads in my 180 and was going to put another MaxJet 1200 in there. Can you have too much movement in the water and is there a way to strategically place power heads for the best results (ex. different levels)

10-15x turnover is the minimum but I prefer closer to 20-25x for a reef especially if your planning on SPS's, add a wavemaker and its even better. I run almost 25x on my reef. Place powerheads to avoid dead spots as much as possible.
Gotta agree with NAS, I'm shooting for 20-22 times turnover with the help of a closed loop. The more water motion the better the benefits of the live rock we so longingly saved for.
never to much water movement you just don't want to point one like right at a plant or something i go two 900's one at the top and one near the bottom and they go across the whole tank moving alot of water
