Any list without Jimmy Paige is incomplete, He could be #1......Need David Gilmore from Pink Floyd too.....And Dave Mustaine, first Metallica guitarist later Megadeath.
I wouldn't put Yngwie anywhere on that list, talented player, horrible writer. Satriani is pretty much the same.
List should be broken into best writers (guys that wrote the coolest riffs and so on) and best soloist really.

Totally right about Yngwie and Satriani.Paige I forgot to put on the list.lol.Gilmore also amazing guitarist. But Mustaine idk.I have never really liked him.Kirk redid the solos on ride the lightning to perfection, and Mustaine the other guy from Megadeth plays most the solos. He never really recovered from that injury he had.

Steve Morse
Kirk Hammett
Steve Vai
Mick Mars (check out some of that old crue)
Richie Blackmoore

lol.Gary Moore is awesome. He was like an 80's metal guitarist right. He did a lot things that most guys have never even seen in that era.If this is the guy that I am thinking about.

Personally, I was very happy to see that Stevie Ray Vaughn was listed. He's got to be one of my faves. But then again, everyone has listed very respectable guitarists.

I like Hammett, I've seen them with him 4 times. Kirk gets a lot of attention, but James Hetfield always wrote all his rhythm parts. A wise musician once said Kirk Hammett would be the fastest guitar playing dishwasher if not for James Hetfield.

And yes Marty Friedman, Megadeath's other guitarist is great too, but they split solos for the most part, but Dave wrote almost everything.

I see Hammett several times on this list and everywhere else on all these magazine lists, etc. and he's great. but imo, James Hetfield is the best guitarist in Metallica. in fact, I'd would venture to say Hetfield is probably the best rhythm guitarist ever. he definitely started a whole new approach to guitar and rhythm playing with the rapid downstroking (instead of the down-up-down-up that just about every "technical guitarist" thinks you have to play with) and the massive palm muting that has pounded out some of the best riffs ever. and if you've ever watched any of those "making of" videos, Hetfield pretty much has to sit in the studio and teach Hammett everything to play. that's what separates Hammett from boring guitarists like Malmsteen.......Hammett has an extremely great rhythm guitarist teaching him what to play.
