Torch Coral

I have a torch that has been doing great and has gotton much larger since I got it about 6 months ago. Now there is a part that has died off. The part that has died is right near this thing that seems to come out to catch food. Will it continue to die ? Other than that part ,it still looks good. Thanks

The "this thing," does it come from another coral? Is it a tentacle-like thing? Could it be a sweeper with a stinging-cell at the end of it? (Nematocyst) If it sounds like any of these things, then this part of your coral is probably too close to a territorial coral nearby, and yes, any part of another coral that comes into contact with this sweeper arm will be injured / killed.

The thing is part of the torch.Its like a fan type thing.

I'm stumped. Are you certain that this fan type thing is actually part of the torch? I have never heard of part of the coral killing another part of the same coral.
Can you get a picture of it? That might help.

No,no, I didnt say the thing was killing it,I am trying to say that some of the tentacles have died near this thing. Here is a pic. The red circle is where this thing is and the blue circle is where the tentacles are gone. Thanks

My Torch had the same condition, missing some tentacles after I know they were there. My question is do you have any peppermint shrimp? The reason I ask, as crazy as it might sound I caught one of my peppermint shrimp pick at the coral and devour one section of the coral exactly like the spot you have circled in your picture.

No peps and I have never seen anything hanging around it.I am wondering if it is because of some changes in water flow that I had made . thanks

I'm not intimately familiar with torch, and my readings are not helping me out on this one. Sorry.
Any other hungry janitors that could've done it? Did something maybe fall on it? Maybe some salt-creep that got pushed back into the tank? Or maybe some food that didn't get eaten?
I'm just guessing now... Sorry.

I have the same thing with my torch i dont know what it is.
when i bought my torch it had just tenticles on one end of the coral the other four were empty but out of three of them there is this little white arms that come out and withdraw back in very fast when theres food floating around i thought maybe the other three would come back but its just something else living in there
would love to find out what it is

Could it be a mantis shrimp? Just a random thought.
