Torch Question

My torch closes up at night, but by the time I get up he's fully open again even thought the lights on the tank have not come on. A few days ago I noticed it was closed up tight, with the lights on. Concerned I checked my water and all was good. My calcium was at 400, usually at 420, so I put some Turbo Calcium to boost it up a bit. When I came home after adding the calcium he was opened up again. Well, this morning same thing, was opened up fine even without the lights on and about 1 hour after the lights came on he was closed up tight again.
I still have my NO T5 lights up, MHs won't be up for at leat another week. He's been in my tank for over a month now and I'm just now noticing him closing up during the day. He has since opened up again, so it's not like he's closed up all day, just for 1/2 hour or so. Any reason why he'd be doing this? Is this just normal behavior?
I do have a frogspawn and he's doing good. He also closes up at night, but haven't seen him close up during the day like the torch is doing. Oh, the torch is not around any other corals. I do have two cleaner shrimp, three emerald crabs, and snails, maybe one of them is bugging him.

My lights are on timers, 10 hours a day. They are 10,000K T5/Actinics but only NO, and he's over half way to the top. He was under T5's at the lfs but he was at the bottom. I'm sure their lighting was much better than mine, which is why I have him close to the top. However, I will be getting my MHs up next week and at that time I'll be moving him to the bottom. As of right now he's looking good. Just seems to stay in more often then I remember seeing. Here is a picture of him taken just a few hours ago. The lighting is actually better than what you see, it's just my "sport" setting on my camera makes my lighting look real low, it's either that or blury pictures. (The Xenia is not even close to touching, just looks that way with the camera angle.)

My flame nips at mine sometimes. It fully retracts but comes back out. Just noticed this was going on. I think it killed one head.

I think that's what must have been the issue. He seems to be doing fine now and I havn't seen him retract like that since. I guess whatever was bothering him decided he didn't taste good.

Could the FS be stinging the torch? I know FS and hammer can be together, but I've heard differing opinions if FS and torch can touch each other.
Not to confuse you more, but I like to stir the pot.
Good luck, I hope it comes through.

I'm a little confused about your question. The FS (frogspawn) is about 5' away on the other side of the tank. The only thing close is the Xenia but even though he looks rather close in the picture he is a good distance away, just the camera angle. But, even though you can't see the FS in the picture maybe you were asking as a "just in case" thing. Go ahead and stir the pot, I don't mind.
That's what brain storming is all about.

just to clarify that for you chris, all three, hammer, torch, and frogspawn are all euphyllia and can definatly touch each other with no detrimental effects, they cant tell themselves apart.

Funny thing is I have heard that FS and Tch can touch because they are green tipped, but dont let a white hammer touch them they will kill it..... this is not true
I've never met a racist coral yet.

I would think that, except my torch, frogspawn and white ridge hammer all touch... no problem with mine, (so far anyway).

I was pointing out that some on had said it, I should have been a little clearer in stating that its not true, sorry for the confusion.
