Green polyped toadstool has not opened in 3 days and looks like it has white dead tissue on it. Xenia which I had been propagating and trading is all dieing, Colt coral has lost some limbs and looks bad, and worst my beautiful open brain looks bad. All other corals including clam, acropora, hammer, frogspawn, torch, rics, zoos, and other open brain all look fine. 3 days ago one of my fire shrimp dissapeared and have slight algea bloom just on right side of tank. Am going to do 20g water change right now. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! :help: :help: :help:

sounds like a TEMP spike to me.. those corals are a little testy on the temp scale!... that or you could have a small coral war going on... are all those corals close together??? any new fish? Coral? anything different about your tank? did you do ANYTHING out of the norm?... maintainence? what else is going on ... these things help ! :)
thanks!

Bigarn, the tank is 4 1/2 months old. I use RO/DI from my own 5 stage unit. No temp spikes that I know of. Temp starts at 79.2 in the AM and is 80.4 when the MH go off, has been this way since the start. I have 2 Icecap variable speed fans on canopy.
shawnts, none of the corals are next to eachother, all at least 8inchs to across the tank from eachother. No new fishin last month and a half. Have added some new cheato to fuge to up pod pop. New gorgonian, acropora, featherdusters, and the brain that is struggling is about 2 1/2 weeks old. Right now the brains mouth is really wide open and he looks shriveled. Xenia are dying 2-3 stalks ok about 10 other stalks dead or dying. have done nothing out of the ordinary that I haven't been doing since the start.
Thanks for the help guys!! Just freaking out here. I love my tank and strive to make it perfect and this is killing me. :scared:

The new additions are probably adjusting to new light. You might want to look into light acclimation next time.

yeah.. Im thinking light too.. but if you had those Xenias???? do you dose Iodine?... well your Colt is dieing too.. so I wouldnt say Iodine would be a problem..
I am in between a diagnosis... light, additives, poison... whatever the case.. SOMETHING IS TO BLAME!... lol

I don't think it is the light. I placed the brain on the sand and it was under MH before I got it, and my first brain is on the sand and looks great. The Xenia I have had for 2 months and was growing like a weed. The toadstool I have had for 2 months as well and it has doubled in size.
Possibly some type of poisoning but all the other corals and fish are doing great. I did a 20g water change a few hours ago and the xenia looks a bit better and the colt looks much better. Brain still not looking good and it's mouth is wide open.
I do not dose iodine. I have used Kent DKH buffer a week or so ago when my pH was down to 8.0 and alk/dkh was 9. I made 25g more of water tonight and added salt to it so I have some if needed tomorrow. Thanks for the help keep problem solving with me and hopefully I can get it worked out.

Well guys I did a water change last night and another tonight, wich is about 30% total in 2 days. The Xenia might make it some of them look better. My brain that I loved I think is doomed, and the toadstool doesn't look dead but has not put out his polyps in about 5 days.
I tanlked with my LFS guy who is very good and trustworthy and he thinks it is an Iodine issue. As in too much Iodine. I am going to take some tank water and my RO/DI water to him to test everything in the AM.
Still no ill effects to my other corals or fish, so I am still confused but hopefully I won't lose anything else.
Thanks again to all those who helped.
