Trace elements for reef tank

depends on what corals, some trace elements that are needed for some corals are usless to others, water changes with a good brand of saltwater is all you need, unless you plan on tons of SPS corals.
but if you just want LPS/softies your set with water changes.

i do 10 to 12 % water changes every week, use distilled water purified by ultrivolent light, and use oceanic salt......would that be good enough?

this is just my opinion i do weekly water changes of 5 gallons but i do dose elements a couple times a week.
i use:
strontium/molybdenum
liquid calcium
aragamilk
iodine
essential elements
marine c
biovit
marine snow
cyclop eeze
that is all i use to dose, and to feed along with live baby brine and also flake.

wilson if i where you i would buy an RO.DI unit, disstilled water is just liek tap, still bad, RO/Di water is the best you can get.

I'd suggest a good quality water source...either RO...or RO/DI for starters. As for trace elements I never really concern myself with trace elements. I try to do a small percentage water change every two weeks and believe that alone will maintain trace elements. If you have a lot od calcium demanding corals then I'd consider suppliments of calcium/alkalinity/magnesium...but as a rule I never suppliment anything unless I have some idea what the acceptable range is and only if I have a accurate/reliable means of testing those levels. As a rule I never suppliment anything I can't accurately test for and all I suppliment is for calcium/alkalinity/magnesium.

What is wrong with distilled water? If it's done properly wouldn't it be as close to pure h2o as one could get. Why is ro/di better?

The cost has to be the main reason. I agree that distilled water is as pure as it gets (not much better if any then RODI) Buying all those gal jugs has got to be a killer, specially if you have a large system. I need 3 gals a day.
